The search for happiness : A myth
Happiness is a state of mind and so also is sadness, anger, disgust and other tides of emotion we feel.
Contrary to popular beliefs that life is all about being happy, I believe life is all about living in the now. In the now as in feeling whatever we are currently feeling to the fullest.
Life itself is a rollercoaster of emotions. Sometimes we are happy, sometimes we are sad, and other times we are just indifferent.
This rollercoaster of emotions are temporary, they don't last. Have you ever been in a situation where you thought if you get something you'll be happier and then you get it and you're not as happy as you thought you'll be or perhaps you thought if you ever into a relationship with someone who loves you you'll be happy for the rest of your life. Some people are of the opinion that if they get their dream car or house they'll be happy but when they eventually get it the happiness does not last as they quickly move on to the next thing that will give them the feeling of being happy.
The constant pursuit of happiness constitute what drives people to do insane things like taking drugs which they eventually get addicted to in the long run. If you constantly pursue being happy, the truth is you'll never be genuinely happy.
The key to really living, is embracing whatever emotion we are going through at the moment because it is temporary.
Life is hard, accepting this fact makes life easier.
So the next time you find yourself brooding on why you're so sad just remember life is hard and it's just temporary.
