RE: This Is Why Punctuation Is Important! - Break the machine or explode the cotton?

in #writing7 years ago (edited)

Hi,
It wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say that today’s kids are more interested in how to use mobile apps, Facebook, the Internet, etc., than learning correct punctuation. Adults are in the same league, unfortunately.
However, I cannot overemphasize the importance of using correct punctuation, and I totally agree with you on that.
I can only quote the following excerpt, which refers to Pythia’s famous phrase from the Oracle of Delphi, and which shows how important it is to put commas in the right order:
“The phrase, depending on where you put commas can mean either "you will go, you will return, not in the war shall you die" or "you will go, you will return not, in the war shall you die"
This is a little example of how applying correct punctuation can be a matter of life or death…

Oh that's so true. A matter of life and death, indeed. I'm going to use that. Thanks.

You'd think though that there would be mobile apps for spelling and grammar and punctuation, but sadly, no. Sometimes, I tend to put too many commas, which is why I self-edit the fiction I write and have an editor ;)
