Late Night Aggressive Drive in Sports Car (Descriptive Writing)
It's late at night and you can't sleep. You look out the front window of your home, and see your pride and joy sitting in the driveway. It is illuminated only by the dull orange glow of street lights. That's the dream car you worked so long and hard to acquire. Now you have it, and you feel the urge to see what it can do.
It's a warm and quiet summer night. You snatch your wallet, phone and keys...put on your most comfortable shoes and go outside. It's 2AM. The light from the street reflects off the car as you approach it. All you can hear is your own footsteps and crickets. You get in and smell that all familiar scent of the leather interior. The seat belt clicking will be the last sound you hear before that powerful engine. You start it up. What a beautiful roar. You wait a few seconds for the RPMs to drop down and pull out of the driveway and head for the motorway. You know just where to go. Your favorite strip of motorway is just outside of town. You open up the windows to feel the warm and fresh summer air as you drive.
You've arrived. Driving over the bridge you see that the motorway is completely bare. Perfect. This straight stretch of road is for you tonight. This is why you came to the edge of town, where everyone is fast asleep. You pull onto the on ramp and head down to that open road. Downshift to get the RPMs in the power band as soon as the ramp straightens up. You check your gauges and you are right where you want to be, just over 4000 RPM. You can hear that engine revving and you're ready to go...
You push that pedal to the floor and get sucked into your seat. Shift into 2nd. The car jolts forward. 7000RPM, shift into 3rd. You feel the warm summer air blowing through your hair already. Merge onto the open road. 130 km/h. You check your mirrors and look ahead to see there is nobody watching... shift into 4th gear. Both hands tight on the wheel like you're about to break it off, but only for a few seconds. RPMs are still climbing fast and 5th gear is coming up. You shift again, and feel that nice smooth shift. 180km/hr. You push the gas harder but it doesn't budge. Euphoria begins to set in. You feel that sense of freedom. You're thinking about nothing but the speed and you want more. Your vision closes in on the road in front of you, your peripheral vision is now gone. Everything you pass by is a blur. The dotted line on the road turns solid. You hear the engine screaming, it's time for 6th gear. You hesitate. Are you sure you want to do this? Before you can decide, you execute a perfect shift without thinking. 240km/h. You feel the adrenaline coarse through your veins as you grab the steering wheel tight. Acceleration has slowed but you are amazed that it is still climbing and the final gear has just begun. The wind blowing through the windows is now louder than the purring engine. You can't look away from the road to even check your speed. The slightest bump in the road makes you feel weightless for just a second. You finally glance at the speedometer.
You let off the gas and exhale, realizing you've been holding your breath. Your body lurches forward a bit as the wind resistance begins to slow the car. It's the ultimate relief. Adrenaline is still pumping through your veins. You feel a bit lightheaded and start to focus on your breathing. 200km/hr. Still travelling fast, but this feels normal compared to just 10 seconds ago. You see another car pulling onto the freeway as you are entering the city again. You're no longer alone so you tap the brakes a bit and get down to 150km/hr. You can coast the rest out. You get down to normal driving speed and take the next exit off the motorway. A nice relaxing city cruise feels great right about now. With the cool summer breeze still blowing through the car, you head home.
You pull into the driveway feeling like a new person. Put up the windows and give the engine a few last revs to hear that roar again before shutting it down. As you walk back up the walkway to your home, all you can hear is your own footsteps, crickets, and the tick-tick of a hot engine cooling down. You look back one more time and see the orange streetlights reflect off the paint again.
