CryptoJournal: The Beginning

in #writing6 years ago

Many moons ago, I started to learn about crypto currencies and mining for bitcoin using block eruptors (I still have one of the cubes actually), ASCII USB flash drive looking miners, and making spreadsheets to calculate the amount of electricity being used to mine and keep it all cool and running vs the rate at which I return bitcoin and the market price at what I could sell it for. I learned a lot during that journey. A lot about mining, wallets, how to loose your bitcoin because you lost your wallet when your computer died, and of course, how to fall out of love with bitcoin because it seemed to be all about bitcoin and nothing that we could really do with it. Yes, there were companies starting to accept it and dark web stuff that you could do with bitcoin, but it didn't really seem like it was going to be a thing that I could continue to be profitable by mining (especially after loosing that wallet).

For the last few weeks, I've been learning a lot again. The world of crypto has changed so much. I am excited again, especially since I found STEEM and Steemit, and starting to figure out how it all works. I decided to start this journal series so that I could share my thoughts and the things I learn as I go through this journey. Maybe it will help someone, or maybe I get something wrong and it gives someone the opportunity to correct me. The bottom line though, is that I am excited again and I want to share my journey.

A few days ago, I met someone that game me some insight on a few stable wallets, exchanges, and a place to start again. I downloaded a few of those, and a few more just to start wrapping my head around what I like, what I don't, if there is any opportunity to fix things, and to give myself some direction on why things are the way they are. Over the last few days, I've downloaded Coinbase, Crypto.com, eSteem, Binance, and Trust. I looked at several others, but those are the ones that still live on my phone. Granted, I am about to remove Crypto.com as it seems to be a bit redundant right now.

I have invested in a few coins and companies and looking to invest in a few more. I'm not investing a whole lot, just a few bucks to get my feet wet again. Give me something to be excited about, and share the height of excitement of the community in both the ups and downs of the markets. More importantly, I wanted to be here to see and help these companies and coins grow and prosper.

I am not going to dive into too much about what I've been investing in just yet as it's probably the wrong way to go about things, as like I said, I am just getting my feet wet again. What I will say, is that I have closed all of my blog posts off of my own website, and have decided to write only on Steemit. I have also started to look around at the community and look at some of the suggestions in regards to being a part of the community and helping some projects grow. I will tell you some of these projects have a long way to go, and have a lot of issues now. For example, going to Utopian.io to look at open projects needing help, I click to login with Steemit (and eSteem) and I just go to those places. It doesn't seem to actually take me off to login. So I click and I click, and I never seem to find Utopian.io projects I can help with. That is a huge issue with user experience.

That is enough of my thoughts for now. My next entry I'm sure will be more specific and focused on a specific topic as opposed to writing experiences during my first days back. It's been a frustrating ride, but very exciting none the less.

-Cheers
