Silencing the Mind- Simplifying the Experience
https://www.aquilay.com/post/silencing-the-mind-written-meditation-series
Hey this is an article from my site. Enjoy!
This is a little exercise on how to silence the mind. Eckhart Tolle discusses humanity's addiction to thinking and I never really thought about it until he said it. If I watched my mind, it felt chaotic, crazy, and felt a bit insane to be honest. Nothing made coherent sense when I really tuned into the thoughts.
Slowly through simple practice (exercise below) I was able to hear the silences in between the thoughts. Eventually realizing that the silences, as Eckhart Tolle teaches, are the natural state of the mind.
It is perfectly doable to go through a modern-day life without thinking. You consciously think, you use it as a tool, but it doesn't USE you.
Let's begin.
Exercise
I. Sit somewhere safe and comfortable.
II. Breathe deeply and slowly. With an openness to relaxation and peace.
III. As if your mind is a muscle, allow it to go limp and blank.
IV. This means bringing awareness TO your mind.
V. Hear your thoughts when they do come, but remain detached if possible, simply watching the mind objectively.
VI. As time passes, and this may not happen the first 1-500 times, see if you can build awareness to the space between the thoughts.
VII. As you build more awareness to this, eventually you may notice the space between the thoughts get a little longer, simply because you're looking at them.
VIII. Perhaps bringing awareness to the feeling that you are not the thoughts, because you can exist in a non-thought way.
IX. And continuing on for as long as possible. The points below go into what you may experience after practicing continually.
X. Eventually, you may come to understand that you are not even the silence, nor the thoughts, but the being watching this experience unfolding before you.
XI. The silence is your natural state of consciousness. The one who watches, in the silence. From this place, thought is a tool and nothing more.
XII. And now just come back into your everyday life. Feeling throughout your day, the difference awareness to your thoughts alone can make.
Take care ya'll.
