Worship the Lord: Blessed be your glorious name, and may it be exalted above all blessing and praise
The Bible presents Nehemiah not as a prophet but as an official of the Persian empire, a scribe, in charge of the administration of the region of Judah and the reconstruction of the city of Jerusalem. Nehemiah led a comfortable life in the court of King Artaxerxes and was a trusted friend and man of confidence of the King of Kings. But like Moses who came to the aid of the people of Israel who were enslaved in Egypt, also Nehemiah was a person who cared a lot about others, and one day, he listened with his heart to the cries of his people:
"I questioned them about the Jewish remnant that had survived the exile, and also about Jerusalem.
They said to me, ´Those who survived the exile and are back in the province are in great trouble and disgrace. The wall of Jerusalem is broken down, and its gates have been burned with fire´" Nehemiah 1:2-3.
Then Nehemiah talked with Artaxerxes and left for Jerusalem with the intention of rebuilding what the Babylonians had destroyed. This is how the reconstruction work began; but the Samaritans considered Nehemiah an enemy, and tried to set traps to him, which Nehemiah evaded.
Once the works were completed and the feast of the huts concluded, a liturgy was celebrated in adoration of the Lord.
The Lord had blessed Judah with his love, and the people had to commemorate all the blessings received, worship the Lord commands the law of Moses:
"Blessed be your glorious name, and may it be exalted above all blessing and praise. You alone are the LORD. You made the heavens, even the highest heavens, and all their starry host, the earth and all that is on it, the seas and all that is in them. You give life to everything, and the multitudes of heaven worship you" Nehemiah 9:5-6.
The life of Nehemiah has a clear message, the Lord blesses those who live the gift of fear of God, this gift is constancy, firmness, and devotion. We cannot separate the beatitude and the spiritual goods from the adoration of the Law of the Lord. God protects his devotees.
