Not feeling Christmas #club100steemCreated with Sketch.

It is a week before Christmas and I haven't even put up any decorations. I have baked nothing. I have not invited anyone over, and I have not attended any parties. I'm just not feeling it.

I am, however, feeling the memes.

Honestly, having to deal with Christmas this year is just too much. I just started a new job, which is taking up most of my time. There are no kids at home, or even living in the same province as us, my father died last January, and there is no reason to buy any presents because we already have everything plus more. Why go to all the work of making Christmas when we are not even enthusiastic about it?

image.png

So after being not in the mood for Christmas already, my husband did a pre-emptive and buzzkilling attack on my Christmas baking. He very rudely asked me NOT to make any gingerbread cookies this year because he hates them. What?! OK then, he has already eaten the last cookie I will ever bake!

So there it is. Christmas is cancelled and if anyone wants Christmas baking, they better do it themselves.

Besides, there is so much terrible going on in the world that making a big fuss out of Christmas seems cruel. A lot of people, even in rich countries, are struggling to put food on the table right now. People in Ukraine don't even have electricity or heat. People in eastern Africa are faced with famine. All over the world, inflation is out of control and the only response from central banks is their one policy tool--raise interest rates. Yeah thanks. Now the rich can get richer by simply storing their money in the bank while the rest of us lose our shirts.

Honestly, I don't think that many other people are feeling it either. We have not received a single Christmas card this year. Maybe they can sense my lack of spirit, or maybe they have just had enough of my crap. I don't know, but whatever the case, it is fine with me. Bah Humbug. Melania had the right idea.

Hi @brittilicious, it is always nice to read your posts because they are different and they are full. I am sorry to hear that you lost your father last January, it is a first year without him so it will be hard because the time will bring many memories, thoughts and emotions. I can understand that you have no mood to decorate the house.

By the way, I noticed that you are not posting from community page that is why you are not visible for our users. Maybe next time go first to this page and click to the box post on right, then our community will be automatically your first tag. I wish your post would be seen by many.

I also noticed recently that @brittilicious does not write in the community. And I wanted to tell her about this magic button.

Thanks. I dont know why I was forgetting to go this route. :-P Too many distractions.

OH thanks. I forgot that button and just pressed the little pencil. I have used it in the past though. I will be sure to do this next post.

I noticed that it's not the first time you've "forgotten" it 😂😂😂

I know. I used to post from the community page and then somehow I stopped. So I am glad that you have reminded me to do it.

This should be said thanks @stef1

It happens so often - I don't feel Christmas coming.
But in our country they say "New Year". Christmas began to be celebrated about 25 years ago. Do you know how many of us celebrate this day? They just stupidly continue to drink alcohol. New Year's holidays last about 10 days. Many people in Russia do not know how to relax during the New Year holidays and just drink, eat and sit in front of the TV. A lot of jokes have appeared on this occasion and there is even a song: "from the first to the thirteenth." That's how many days the holiday lasted for the first time, when the public holidays were canceled and added to the New Year holidays.

This year our family is left without money for the holiday. It so happened that we still have big expenses ahead of us, and incomes are not growing.
And in the summer we had very big expenses. But we will be happy about this holiday, because it is an occasion to meet with friends. And my mom will turn 83 on December 31.

There was no Christmas in the USSR? I think I understand why--it has turned into a wholly commercial event, rather than a religious holiday. It is the excess of capitalist excess. That reason, and of course the fact that it is a religious holiday would make it undesirable for socialists.

For me, the best aspect about Christmas is the story of a teenaged and unwed mother being taken on by the best working class stepfather ever, and then giving birth to the ultimate socialist. Why doesn't anyone celebrate that?

Happy Birthday to your Mom!

What is this story? 😊

In the USSR, all church holidays were banned. Stalin allowed Christmas trees to be put up in 1936. In Russia, Christmas is celebrated on January 7. And we also celebrate the Old New Year - January 13.
This is due to the fact that in 1918 Lenin changed the Julian calendar in Russia to the Gregorian calendar and added 13 days. That is why the Revolution is called "October" and was committed on October 25, and it was always celebrated on November 7.

As they say in our country - "we do everything through the ass."

You don't know that story? That is the actual story of the "Holy Family". The USSR should have been all over that. Marxists in Latin America were (and some still are I suppose).

I am surprised that Stalin approved of Christmas trees.

Is converting to the Gregorian Calendar a bad thing? I thought that almost everyone did that? You are right that it makes it confusing, however. There are people in Canada that celebrate the Orthodox Christmas dates. A fair number of "non-Orthodox" people will leave their Christmas decorations up until Orthodox Christmas has passed. See how easy it can be to get along?

I think it is right that Russia has switched to a common calendar. Otherwise there would be confusion.

Stalin allowed Christmas trees only in 1936. And they were called "New Year's." The word "Christmas" was banned until the 90s of the last century.

I start celebrating Christmas on December 25th and until January 7th. That's cool. But not everyone understands.

ROFLOL, I agree! I've spent the look at St month and a half in the recliner at the hospital.

Ok think you sho up ld bake one more batch of cookies, and over cook them. Then sew him into bed when he's asleep and force feed him the entire batch, LOL! That way you can have a merry Christmas too....

👍🤠😋

Sorry been real sleep deprived, doing better now...getting a little more rest.

I still like the cookie idea. You decide how mad you are...if you're real mad, don't give him any milk!

😊😁👍🤠😂💗
