20-year-old gang-raped by 5 ‘teens’ in Delhi
NEW DELHI: Five days after a teenager was raped by three youths in a park at Shalimar Bagh in northwest Delhi, a 20-year-old woman was allegedly gang-raped by five youths suspected to be juveniles near a municipal garbage dump (dhalao) in Jahangirpuri on Wednesday night. The survivor lodged a complaint at Jahangirpuri police station on Thursday afternoon.
In her statement, the survivor told police that she bumped into the youths near the garbage dump around 10pm. The youths took her to a desolate spot behind the MCD apartments nearby and raped her in turns. They threatened to kill her if she shouted for help or mentioned the incident to anyone.
On Thursday afternoon, the survivor narrated her ordeal to a relative following which police were informed. She was taken for medical examination after which a case of gang rape was registered. Her statement under Section 164 CrPC will be recorded before a magistrate on Friday. An NGO is counselling her. "The suspects have been detained and we are verifying their antecedents," said DCP (northwest) Aslam Khan.
The accused reside in the same colony as the survivor and are known to her family. Cops said the youths are school dropouts and worked part time at the garbage dump. They will be produced before a magistrate if they are found to be adults.
Meanwhile, police have questioned more than 450 people in the Shalimar Bagh teen's gang rape case. Sources said that the girl's male friend is also being grilled to establish his role. On Wednesday, the girl's cousin who had brought her to the police station was also questioned. So far, criminals part of a gang are the prime suspects.
The crime branch has been asked to probe the incident. Cops are looking for a black motorbike on which three youths were seen fleeing the park. More than 50 bikes have been checked till now.
