What meat eaters don't know about world hunger

Have you ever wondered why there are so many people dying of starvation? Have you ever wondered why children are dying at rapid rates because of malnutrition?
About 1 billion people starve worldwide. 98% of these people live in developing countries.

Once again the answer is a simple one.

The role animal agriculture plays in worldhunger might be bigger than you have ever imagined.

Agriculture is key to understanding why the world has enough food crops to feed approximately 14 billion people. Currently we are about 7 to 8 billion people. How are 1 billion still starving?

Simple. 0.6 hectar land can either be used to grow 16 700 kg of fruits, vegetables and grains.
Or the land is used to feed animals for our food. In the end you would have 170 Kg of meat.

How does animal agriculture work?

First world western countries for example have eaten about 300 million tons of meat in the year 2012. This means they used 400 million tons of worldwide grown grains only for animals and about 250 million tons of soy.
Industrial countries buy land in developing countries only to feed animals. Germany alone claimed about 3 million hectars of land in Latin America. For the purpose to grow soy for cattle. Germany uses over 50% of their lands to feed animals.

Developing countries lack land to feed their own population. Native farmers lands are taken away or bought at low prices. Leaving them deprived of fertile soil. This is especially a growing problem in Africa.

As if this wasn't enough there are European laws which support animal agriculture industries. European aid payments give the government the ability to fund the production of meat. A lot of money is given to farmers and companies to buy land abroad.

Aid payments and grants allow EU companies to import soy from developing countries without having to pay taxes. The tax barrier is removed so first world countries actually profit by selling meat due to the ''cheap'' manufacturing.

It's not a secret that the crops grown would be more than enough to feed everyone.
Yet capitalism once again is driven by greed and profits. Huge profits actually.

Would world hunger be solved by a more conscious way of living?
Yes it would.
