Bad Rabbit: A new ransomware epidemic is on the rise
A new cyberattack struck on Tuesday Ukraine, affecting(allocating) the functioning of the airport of Odessa, and Russia where several on-line media were concerned, four months after the world cyberattack NotPetya, which had started in these two countries.
" It seems that we face(deal with) a new epidemic ", became alarmed the Russian company(society) specialized in IT security Group-IB, in a communiqué.
Baptisé Bad Rabbit, this computer virus reveals on the screen of infected computers a 300-dollar ransom demand to be paid with the virtual currency(change) Bitcoin, according to the same source(spring).
" A number of public institutions and strategic sites in Ukraine " as well as Russian media appear among his(her) victims, asserts the communiqué.
In Ukraine, the IT attack affected(touched) in particular the airport of Odessa and the subway of the capital Kiev, assured(insured) AFP Evgueni Goukov, public relations manager at Group-IB.
" The computer system of the international airport of Odessa was struck by a cyberattack ", announced the airport authorities in a communiqué, stating "slowings down" in the service(performance) of the services(departments).
For its part, the subway of Kiev indicated not accepting temporarily the credit card payment banking.
" In Russia, at least three media were affected(allocated), among whom(which) the Interfax et Fontanka.ru news agency ", the main site of information of Saint-Petersburg, specified mister . Goukov.
At 10:30 am, the site of Interfax just like Fontanka.ru was not accessible(approachable).
For its part, the Russian Kaspersky Labs company, specialized in the IT security, asserted that the attack affected(touched) not only Russia and Ukraine but also Turkey and Germany.
" Most of the victims of the attack are in Russia. We also observe similar attacks in Ukraine, in Turkey, in Germany, but their number is clearly lower ", declared Kaspersky Labs, in a communiqué sent to AFP, by specifying that the virus " spreads via infected Russian sites ".
At the end of June, a cyberattack in the ransomware, caused(provoked) by the computer virus NotPetya and which had begun in Russia and in Ukraine, had affected(touched) thousands of computers in the world.
