Sndbox End of Year Review: Workshops, Meetups & Cross-discipline Incubation [Pt. 3 of 5]

Welcome to Part 3 of our End of Year Sndbox review!

---

After tackling the nitty gritty financials yesterday, we’ll be focusing today on something that is more difficult to measure yet nonetheless critical to the success and growth of our incubator. Sndbox is a global community but the leadership team is based out of New York City. We’ve taken this opportunity to push the agenda and presence of Steemit in one of the most dynamic cities of the world and one that is quickly bolstering the blockchain sector.

Our IRL (in-real-life) programming includes a huge variety of presentation and gathering formats, purposefully diversified to be accessible to all demographics ranging from the battle-hardened HODLers to complete newcomers to both crypto and Steemit. Our multi-pronged approach has been a able to reach hundreds of curious professionals over the last few months and as we announced last week, we’ll be tackling 2018 with a robust recurring schedule.

Public Presentations & Workshops

This started as a scouting mechanism for potential Steemit members and quickly developed into an outreach program where we could reach hundreds of engaged individuals through organized presentations and activities. We work closely with institutional leaders to make the greatest impact and integrate Steemit into their big-picture operation.

Our incubator created a New York City Blockchain Meetup Group that has grown tremendously over the last few months. We're now 557 members strong and our gatherings rank within the top most active Blockchain Meetups in the city. This group is a fantastic way to get the word of Steemit out across multiple on and offline venues.

Onboarding at the Artist Co-op

	Hosted by the Artist Co-op in Manhattan, our team met and presented to a diverse group of creative professionals. Topics revolved around how the art world is being transformed through blockchain technology; we covered copywriting, information sharing, and intellectual property among many other topics. The Artist Co-op, the first co-working/co-acting space for performance artists in Manhattan. This space is the first of its kind to offer communal rehearsal spaces and and overall community for actors, actresses, performance artists, screenwriters, and others in the performance sector.

Live-Blogging Workshop in NYC

	Hosted by 100 Bogart, a brand new and beautiful co-working space in Brooklyn. This comprehensive workshop covered the essentials of Steemit, a walkthrough of features, techniques and strategies. Our team was joined by a wide range of professionals in New York who were joining Steemit for the first time. Link here.

100 Bogart, Bushwick’s completely new co-working complex. The Sndbox team works out of this office and we’ve made great strides to incorporate Steemit into both their organizational operations as well as the work of several of its members.

Summer Streets Festival

	Summer Streets is a yearly festival in New York City where the Department of Transportation invites artists, musicians and institutions to host public workshops. New York City Department of Transportation Arts Program invited @sndbox to showcase the STEEM Park project and host an art workshop. Link here.

Summer Streets Festival organized by the New York City Department of Transportation. This massive yearly event, which spans a few Saturdays each August, invites civic organizations to set up public booths and engage the whole of New York City on Park Avenue.

As we’ve been able to successfully onboard more and more diverse professionals, Sndbox has been receiving more invitations to speak and present on how fully established institutions could integrate with Steemit and other forms of blockchain media. 	Hosted by Cooper Robertson in NYC, our talk “Mining Creativity and Cryptocurrency” illustrated the benefits of professional design practice as it relates to the Steem Blockchain. We showcased our work with Steem Park as an example design project that can build an audience alongside project funding. Link here.

Google Campus Meetup in Seoul

	Hosted by the Google Campus in Seoul, South Korea. Our team invited prominent local Steemians to present on their experiences with social-media blockchain and what work they've been pursuing within the community; we covered STEEM Park in NYC and Seoul as well as future impact projects. Link here.

The World Bank Roundtable, Washington D.C.

	Hosted by The World Bank, our talk “Blockchain Resiliency & Community Impact” showcased the many community-building initiatives within the Steem ecosystem and how cryptocurrencies act as an accessible resource for parts of the world without brick and mortar bank-infrastructure. Link here.

The World Bank is a 72 year-old financial institution that provides loans to countries for capital programs. It is one of the largest institutions globally, worth close to $252.8 billion dollars (in capital). The Bank is headquartered in Washington, D.C. in the United States, and has over 10,000 employees stationed in 120 offices worldwide.

With both presentations and institutional workshops, Sndbox has been gearing up a more frequent presentation schedule for 2018. It’s been a productive way to create a more robust and organizational foundation for Steemit engagement from the outside and we’ll continue to do our best reach out to more and more institutions.

Day 3 Tips and Takeaways

---

Each day, we want to share a bit of what we’ve learned by operating and growing Sndbox related to the topics covered in this post. Hopefully these can be utilized by other Steemians to help diversify the bright future of the platform and bring the Steem blockchain to the world. Here are three main takeaways for outreach and impact -

1. Pinpoint an Audience in Need. We all want to bring Steemit and the Steem blockchain to the world. We believe the beginning steps towards mainstream adoption is finding communities who could really leverage the technology. For us, this meant being real-world ambassadors for creative and organizational communities who have historically had weak foundations of communal and financial support.

2. Help Solve Their Problem with Steemit. We all know that everyone and every organization stands to benefit from the mighty power of the Steem blockchain. The main question becomes how to integrate their long-established practices with the current and potential offerings of Steemit. Meeting organizations halfway and projecting their possible trajectory has been an effective way to onboard major groups.

3. Think Big. Think about where you think Steem could get to in terms of impact. Could it revolutionize the charity industry? How about after-school programs? Always consider how Steemit might make the maximum amount of impact in your area or professional domain.
