RE: Under Pressure! Managing Deadlines and Work When You're Mostly a Creative Slacker
Are you by any chance describing ME? I'm a great procrastinator. I'm slow, but generally quite accurate. Grades in school... same, more or less. I prefer to think about how to do something rather than just dive in and do it.
I can recall a time many years ago where I was re-conditioning some parts at work. Another co-worker was working at the bench beside me and his hands were just flying all over the place and I was in awe how fast he was working. I just kept putzing along all day and at the end of the day, I counted how many I had done versus how many 'Speedy Gonzales' had done. I was shocked to see that we both completed and equal number! He looked to be moving at least 50% faster than I was, so how did he not manage to do more? I guess he was a magician at making it LOOK like he was working fast. Sure had me fooled! Obviously looks can be deceiving.
"Slow but accurate and top quality product" has pretty much been my M.O. since... as long as I can remember.
I have always prided myself on doing good work and on accomplishing things with minimal disruption and effort. I used to get hired quite a bit as a house painted specifically because I could paint without turning a house inside out and having to move everything in the house and plastic and tarps everywhere. Yes, it took me twice the time of other painters, but never a drop spilled or any dust anywhere...
You are my kind of house painter!
The more I learn about you, the more I see how similar we are.
