Work in London

in #work7 years ago

If your young and your trying to get involved in the hustle & bustle of London then be prepared to be shot down a few times this is nothing against you as a person or how well your interview went, it's just about your age because the person giving you the interview might remember back to how they were in their young adult years and just look at you and think that your not ready for a career or ready to be serious about your career and your life. The reason for this article is because I feel like when you walk into an interview and they know your age they already judge you before you've even opened your mouth, which I feel is unfair because their are people who are in their late 20's early 30's who still haven't grown up. One thing I would have to say is that these companies big or small need to understand if you've taken the time out of your day to come and see them that they should give you the common courtesy of at least not judging you before you've even been able to sell yourself to them. I always like to use metaphors for trying to get my point across as I feel it is a good way to put things into perspective,so a good example would be a therapist whereby they will converse with you trying to figure out what's wrong in your life and what you need to change but they don't judge they will ask one question and listen to you talk for however long you wish your answer to be then ask a different question ; but if we look at interviews they always have about 8-10 questions to ask and they want the interview to finish in 30 minutes, to me that doesn't make sense because for every question they are putting you on the spot and I can understand they want you to be able to deal with pressure in a good paying job, but also you have to remember that these people in high places have to get relaxed and be in their zone as well to produce their best work, so for an interview to just be some very awkward question e.g. what is your greatest achievement? I feel they want you to sum up your whole life with a good work achievement which to me is very hard to do because at the time you might have a few which pop into your head straight away but if you struggle with pressure and you freeze then you've potentially lost that chance because of one slip up and if you do handle the pressure and answer the question you have to be very careful on what one you choose to speak about as the interview might interpret that achievement in a different way then you do rendering your achievement below others or just not good enough for them.

My personal opinion is one like so, just be very forward I understand people don't like blowing their own trumpets but unfortunately getting a job is no longer about having the grades or experience it's about being able to prove yourself in that interview and to be honest if you get your foot through that first door whatever else you do after that will just add to your expertise, so my notion is just throw yourself in and the deep end handle everything that hits you with composure and you'll be just FINE.
