CABINET MAKER X #25 Oak Under stairs Cupboard Part 2

in #woodworking6 years ago

Hi Woodworking enthusiasts,

Welcome back to part two. In this video I show you how I make ledged doors.

This is a very simple, way to make doors but it must be done correctly.

I have seen these doors made incorrectly time and time again, and I have to admit by myself as well when I first started out.

This style of construction was one of the early styles of door, and it is a great way to make a wooden door that stays straight and stays the same size (within reason).

It is not as advanced as panelled construction but still very popular and fashionable.

These doors that I am making only have ledges but some designs have diagonal braces.

I have tongue and grooved the boards and then I spot glue and screw the ledges on.

I make sure not to push the boards too tightly together as this could be as problem if the doors expand.

This simple but effective style is great if done right and as always the smallest details count.

Great video and explanation of the procedure and why it's done.
Most people don't realize just how much wood moves seasonally.
Or that it's possible to overclamp.

Yes and I would say the most important thing anyone needs to know about woodwork is that way timber moves, everything else can be worked out from there. We must spread the word. Thanks for your comment
