1 dead in wrong-way I-495N crash; some lanes remain closed

HOPKINTON, Mass. —
A woman was killed early Friday in a wrong-way, head-on crash on Interstate 495 North in Hopkinton, according to State Police.

HOPKINTON, Mass. —
A woman was killed early Friday in a wrong-way, head-on crash on Interstate 495 North in Hopkinton, according to State Police.

The crash happened about 2 miles south of the Massachusetts Turnpike interchange shortly before 6 a.m.

State police said the driver of the wrong-way vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene. Her name has not been released.

The male driver of the second vehicle was taken to UMass Memorial Medical Center with serious injuries.

All northbound lanes of the highway were closed after the crash, but all were reopened at about 8:15 a.m.

A several-mile backup was being reported before the Massachusetts Turnpike, and drivers were asked to avoid the area.
