19 Year Old Girl Gang raped for 3 hours, police mocked her for “coming with a filmy story”

A shocking and raging incident has been reported in Bhopal where a 19 year old girl was gang raped for 3 hours. The college girl was tied up and raped by 4 men for 3 consecutive hours, as they took tea-and gutkha breaks before again raping her.

The Bhopal city takes pride, claiming it to be one safest city for women. Ironically, this horrifying incident took place under a bridge in the heart of Bhopal. The area has some of the busiest roads and rail tracks — the bustling Habibganj station is just 100 metres away, and an RPF post just 50m away. Thousands of vehicles drove past just 100 metres from where she was stripped, tied up and brutally gang raped repeatedly.

The girl travels for an hour daily from her hometown to Bhopal, as she is preparing for UPSC exam. On Tuesday evening, after her coaching classes got over, she started walking along the tracks towards Habibganj station. Around 7 pm, a man now identified as Golu Bihari Chadhar — out on bail after being charged in her infant daughter’s murder — grabbed her by her hand. In defense, she kicked him and he fell. He then got angry, and called out for friends Amar and Ghuntu, and the two of them started dragging her towards a nullah. The girl kept fighting and hit both of them with a stone.

This angered all of them, who then hit her with a stone as well, tied her up, and raped her. After around 15 minutes, Golu went to fetch gutka and cigarettes, leaving Amar to watch over her. Amar and Golu are brothers-in-law and married to two sisters.

The girl then begged for some clothes as hers were completely torn. Golu went back and got some clothes, perhaps of his wife’s — and also brought along two others to join in. And she was raped again. This auction of humanity went on for 3 hours, and they ended at 10 pm. The girl was then allowed to dress up and leave. They took away her earring, phone, and watch.

The girl somehow managed to walk to the RPF outpost at Habibganj station and called her parents. In the meantime, her father was also looking for her, as she got pretty late in reaching home. Both her parents are in police. Seeing how badly traumatized she was, she was taken back home,

Next morning, the family went to MP Nagar to file a complaint. Three police stations refused to take her complaint and a GRP officer mocked her for “coming with a filmy story”.

Her mother says, “While coming from Habibganj, my daughter saw two of the rapists loitering in front of Mansarowar Complex, which is around 500 metres from the spot of crime. We handed over the duo to GRP Habibganj. It’s one of the worst experiences of my life. If I, as a policewoman, have to face such problems in filing my daughter’s gangrape complaint, I can’t imagine what a common man goes through. SHO GRP Mohit Saxena and SI Uikey misbehaved with us and said they wouldn’t file any case. SI Uikey alleged that we were making a ‘false filmy complaint.”
