They see it as loss though. Loss of power over others. It drives me insane that people point to some period in their history and say, "Never again," before turning around and justifying the same inhumane treatment of whoever they deem "the other". Demanding equality with oppressors is not the same as resisting oppression. But of course, I'm preaching to the choir ...
