RE: [Witness] Update - January 2025 | DAO Burn Steem | Debugging steemd
Im Moment baut scheinbar einzig der Chiller für seine neue SDS-Version am Code herum. Zumindest was den Nicht-Concensus-Teil angeht, hat er ihn ein wenig aufgebohrt, um an mehr Informationen für seinen SDS zu kommen.
ety001 macht auch einiges drumherum, also was das Bauen der Produktiv-Images angeht und so, aber ich habe von ihm noch nicht gehört, dass er direkt im steemd-Code arbeitet.
Im Grunde ist das Ganze ja auch gar nicht erforderlich. Das Bauen funktioniert ja tadellos mit dem aktuellen Dockerfile und unter Ubuntu18.04. Nur eben (künftig) nicht das Debugging mit VSCode.
Ich habe ja auch wie ein Irrer gesucht. Die damals Aktiven am Code müssen ja auch entsprechende Werkzeuge benutzt haben. Aber irgendwie habe ich dazu nichts konkretes gefunden. Chiller und ich habe auch für den Fall einer Hardfork überlegt, dass man ja auch die Datenbanken vergleichen müsste, um zu sehen, dass die Datenbanken übereinstimmen. Auch das müsste doch in vergangenen Forks erfolgt sein... Testnet ist auch so eine Geschichte. Das muss alles im Falles einer Fork aufgebaut werden... Da ist schon viel Wissen verloren gegangen...
Wie dem auch sei, es gibt gute News: Ich habe heute tatsächlich den Durchbruch geschafft! Ich kann jetzt unter Ubuntu 20.04 die Execs bauen lassen und debuggen. Ich habe ein wenig bei der Konkurrenz geschnökert und ein paar Tipps gefunden. Dass es mit der Boost-Library zu tun hatte, hatte ich ja schon vermutet, aber darüber hinaus muss auch noch der Compiler auf eine niedrigere Version gesetzt werden. Ein paar Versuche und einige Stunden Rechenzeit (warum muss ich auch einen ausrangierten Rechner dafür nehmen) später habe ich es geschafft...
Jetzt gibt es keine zeitlichen Einschränkungen mehr... und ich kann in die Untiefen des Codes hinabsteigen... ;-))

Ob wir einen HF noch erleben? Denke da müsste schon eine sehr geniale Idee kommen, damit das gemacht wird. Aber lange Zeit dachte ich auch, am Condenser wird wohl nix mehr gemacht. Und siehe da...
Auf alle Fälle sind das gute Nachrichten, einmal mehr ein Grund um dich endlich in die Top20 zu hieven. Kommt bestimmt!

Ein aktuelles Thema unter den Zeugen ist auch, die Steem Engine neu zu beleben. Das war ja eher vor meiner aktiven Zeit hier, aber scheinbar brachte das schon ein wenig mehr Schwung und Aktivität mit sich... vielleicht auch an manchen Stellen unerwünscht, wenn ich an diverse BEER und PIZZA Kommentare denke ;-)
Ich würde, wenn ich das System richtig verstanden habe, sogar vermuten, dass man die vormaligen "Werte", die nach dem Einstellen des Dienstes nicht mehr verfügbar sind, wiederherstellen könnte, da ja alles auf der Steem Blockchain gespeichert sein muss.
Palnet war ganz interessant, da gab es etwas Wirbel damals. Ach, ich sehe gerade, palnet.io gibt es immer noch, obwohl der Token so gut wie nix mehr wert ist. Und sogar auf Steem nutzen bis heute noch einige den #palnet Tag. Hmm, man muss nicht alles verstehen ;-)
Hab überlegt, ob das mit den vormaligen Werten herstellen so eine gute Idee ist, darum ist mir PAL (Palnet) wieder eingefallen. Das ist ein Beispiel für einen Token der auf Steem keinen Wert hätte, außer man baut für den Steem-PAL-Token wieder ein extra Frontend.
Ja, ich war auch kein so großer Freund von BEER, PIZZA & Co, das wurde nicht selten überdosiert.
Ich vermute ein Start bei Null wäre besser als das alte Zeug mitzuschleppen, denn Token deren Funktionalität auf Steem nicht mehr vorhanden ist nutzen ja nix. Außer man macht es selektiv, ich hätte da noch das sehr begehrte BaltenGold BG ;-)
Also ich kann mich mit palnet.io nicht verbinden. Die Verbindung wird bei mir abgelehnt.

I agree with you that it is too early to draw conclusions about the price of the coin and its worthlessness, since the entire token market is in some stagnation, but we have known bad times and we have known good times, if I am not mistaken, then two and a half years ago the PAL coin cost about half a dollar.
I would advocate for the resumption of the work of the Steem engine, there are many millions of my different coins buried there...

Ha ha ha... I decided to increase your collection a little, because it is always nicer to see several works in a collection, so it can already be called something that philatelists call a "series" :) Yes, when you dream of fish, it often means profit, and when I created this photo work, I was thinking about such dreams, and the Discus fish that I photographed in my aquarium and they became part of the picture at the time looked like an aquarist's dream.

Die Frage ist halt, ob der Markt noch Sinn macht bzw. ob PAL irgendwann wieder gefragt ist. So wie es aussieht, interessiert das keinen mehr. Der letzte NFT Handel war schon 5 Monate her.
I'm seeing that stemgeeks.net is also not reachable now. It was still there last time I checked, but that was some time ago.
Oh yes, there were some of these descendants, I lost track of them. I wasn't that familiar with STEM, but I've just been able to access stemgeeks.net. I'm a bit surprised that these frontends are still being kept running at all.
LEO is also one of the candidates and if I remember correctly was created shortly after PAL. It ran quite well back then and the frontend still works. But does it have a future?
The problem from my point of view was that so many different tokens were created that I no longer felt like dealing with each one.
Is it a good idea to bring the steem-engine back to life? Hmm, hard to say, I just remembered the saying that you shouldn't get on a dead horse :-)
True. Every blockchain and its brother already has a layer-2 solution. I'm not sure that recreating steem-engine here adds anything strategic to our ecosystem, and it might dilute the value of STEEM tokens (caused by people selling STEEM to buy the L2 tokens). As you remarked, it seems to me that LEO is the only steem-engine token that really seems to have partially succeeded. That's a whole lot of dead weight for a single success story. There's also a question about whether it makes sense to implement a side chain that would compete with native SMTs if/when we start seeing blockchain enhancements again.
Personally, I think community development efforts should focus on enhancing Steem's unique/core capabilities, i.e. social media. I don't see much point in reproducing standard crypto capabilities that already exist in numerous places (unless it simultaneously enhances the social experience).
I have the same reservations about efforts to create NFTs here. Steem will just be an "also ran" in these areas for the foreseeable future.
Das Gold des Balten habe ich auch noch. Nur sind sie weg seit Abschaffung der steemengine.

Vielleicht erleben wir ja die Auferstehung. Ich habe noch im Hinterkopf, dass @balte bei @alucian damals einen gewissen Betrag an STEEM zur Absicherung hinterlegt hat. Aber wie genau und was draus geworden ist habe ich nicht mehr am Schirm. Alu wird das schon korrekt gemacht haben, kenne ihn als zuverlässig.
I definitely agree about the BEER and PIZZA posts. IMO, most of the steem-engine tokens were spammy, but there were a few that might've succeeded if the Witness Wars hadn't happened.
This actually relates to the "stealth project" that I mentioned in my last couple diary posts. Unfortunately, I haven't found time to work on that for a while. I think there's a fairly big area of opportunity that hive-engine and SMTs both missed.
