witness-update My contribution as a witness
Hi, according to the @jerrybanfield post (100 Steem for witness below rank 80), I would like to explain my contribution as a witness.
Before that, I would like to introduce my self. I'm french steemian (like @drakos and @arcange). I'm working as network specialist and I'm a father a of little child 3 years old.
The Francophone community is small and despite the huge contribution of @roxane and @oroger, we do not have enough technical information about steem blockchain. Because of that, there's a lot of francophones asking themselves basic questions about bandwith, reward and so more.
Why I choose to be a witness ? there are several reasons :
- I love learning how something works (especially when I use it everyday);
- I like to share what I have learned;
- I want improve my dev skills
My witness activity
Almost every day, I help francophone users on @francosteemvotes discord. When necessary, I delegate some SP to solve low bandwith and create new steem account.
I explain some informations about the SBD and how to choose the reward option (TLDR : choose 50/50 while SBD > USD). I almost always write in french for my frenchophone fellows.

But I'm talking about the phylosphy of steem when necessary (Steem, we need to talk).
I'm actively publishing on utopian.io. I have two repo :
- a steem <-> euro (as askeed by my friend @yann0975) : A Simple tool to convert Steem to Euro
- a tool that explain how reward is computed, what is the best option between 50-50 and 100% SP, and estimate the author's reward : ShoMySteemReward
My setup
I'm using a VPS server of https://www.scaleway.com.
I'm using the docker solution provided by @Someguy123 and conductor provided by @furion. Thx for all mate !
One last word
Thx to @jerrybanfield to give an opportunity for witness below 80. I'm not sure if it's a good idea. I think a witness need to find its on way to pay his own server.
Currently, I pay my own server with my publications on utopian. I hope, other witness will find a solution.

There are so may people campaigning as witnesses that it gets a little overwhelming. I have all of my 30 witness votes and feel like I should be getting involved. But I'm just too damn wishy woshy.
What I'm wondering is if it's okay to try to engage with each of the candidates or if that would be tack and obnoxious? I really need to educate myself on how this all works a little better, I guess.
I understand your point. It’s can be hard to follow each witness. Sometimes A witness disabled his server and no voter see that.
Well, that would certainly encourage me to put my vote elsewhere. But at least it would be an easy witness to check off my list, lol.

T’as vu que certains utilisent zfs et zram pour diminuer la taille en ram ?
Il n'ya pas grand chose que je puisse faire sur utopian. A moins qu'il y ait de la traduction ou de la cryptographie . Donc je compense en écrivant beaucoup.
J'ai vu (c'[email protected] non) pour zram et zfs. Cela me permettrait de lancer un seed node sans ajouter des dépenses. Si c'est aussi génial qu'ils le disent, j'imagine que toute la communauté devrait suivre.

En attendant, je vais chercher un autre fournisseur pour mon VPS. En espérant pouvoir activer zram (ce qui ne semble pas disponible sur scaleway -> online).
