Davinci Translation Report #17 and rules updated
Greetings from @davinci.witness!
Thanks to @pab.ink for making this fantastic drawing!
This is report #17 of the translation activity conducted in collaboration with @utopian-io (you can find the previous report HERE).
We realized that in the last few weeks we have placed probably too much emphasis on the rewards distributed in the translation cateogry. This, is probably deviating the focus from the real reasons behind why we do what we do.
The collaborative effort in the translation category should aim at the dissemination of Open Source Software, making it available to languages other than English. This should be the biggest incentive, making sure that users of your own language can understand and use the software you translate. It should not be considered as a paid job, "I did the translation I want to be paid for it!".
Obviously, we know that there is a considerable amount of commitment and dedication needed to provide quality translations. For this reason the DaVinci team and Utopian try to incentivize your commitment by voting your posts.
The current objective is to have in our portfolio the main languages in the world. To this end, we will have to gradually redistribute the voting percentages so that all languages can receive comparable supports. There is heterogeneity in the distribution of the contributions, some translators were making up to 8 contributions per week while others barely made 1. The first step towards a fairer distribution of votes is to limit the number of contributions we will support from each translator to 3 posts per week. However, further limits will be added.
We also thought of simplifying the weekly reports, paying less attention to the economic aspect.
By examining the curve of the translated words we can see that there is a clear uptrend in the overall number of translated words per week. Currently we have recorded only two slowdowns, the first due to the summer holidays and the second, more abrupt, due to the halt caused by HF20.
This week we also hit another record, 120.552 translated words in 14 languages, an excellent result, and for this we want to thank all our teams!
We are growing as a community, we currently have 17 active teams, 76 translators, 25 LM and 812 active users on our discord server. To provide you with better assistance the DaVinci team will also introduce some new staff members, we wish to welcome:
We plan on building a thriving community and we hope to add more staff members in the near future.
DAVINCI TRANSLATION REPORT 17

Instruction for a correct application: |
---|
The application post should be posted from your Steem profile. In the post you should tell us what are your qualifications and why you should be considered as a translator or Language Manager (LM). Moreover, it is mandatory to post a link to a voice recording of you speaking your native language and English. You can find more details on this post: https://steemit.com/witness-update/@davinci.witness/davinci-witness-update-6-utopian-io-translation-rewards-are-coming-back. Also, your post should contain the tag davinci-application. And after you drop a link to your application post in this room: #job-application-room on Davinci's discord server. |
Please note:
Your translation contribution post is as important as the translation itself. Through that post you describe your activity to the Steem community (and to your followers). Please let's avoid copy/paste types of posts and try to make these posts as engaging as possible. We understand that it's not an easy task to morph a report into something interesting to read but we will also try to provide you with some tools that will help you in this task.Additional Charts
Scores assigned by our LMs
Averages of the scores assigned to the translations by our LMs, the points vary from a minimum of 1 to a maximum of 4 for the following categories:
- formatting, language and overall presentation of the post
- overall value of this contribution on the open source community
- total volume of the translated text
- overall difficulty rate of the translated text (this value depends on the type of text to be translated)
- rate the semantic accuracy of the translated text
In the first chart, there is overall average score assigned per week.
In the second chart, there is average time taken to review a translation. Calculated between the date and time of publication of the post and the comment left by the LM. It is not intended as time spent in the review, but only after how long the post is reviewed.
