Investing Time, Money, and Brain Power into the Steem Blockchain
Preparing for the Future of Steem
It's no surprise that I'm SUPER bullish when it comes to the Steem currency and blockchain. If I weren't, I wouldn't have already invested over $17,000 and countless hours into this amazing platform. But that isn't enough for me; I always feel that I can do more. And starting this week I WILL do even more!
Today I thought it would be fun to recap the ways I've invested into the blockchain already and include one new way that I'm excited to share with you. 😁
Time isn't Cheap
If you've been following my blog for any length of time then you know that I spend quite a bit of time here on Steemit and @dlive creating content and connecting with other users of the blockchain. I also run the @minnowfund initiative which helps new users each week by delegating to them 100 Steem Power. Moreover, I offer the @brandonfrye upvote service where users can send SBD and Steem to receive an upvote from my account and gain exposure for their posts. And on top of all of that, I recently became a Steem Witness so that I could do my part to ensure the security, continuity, and stability of the Steem Blockchain.
All of these things take time and I feel that time is our most valuable asset as a human being. Money we can spend and get back, making it a replenish-able resource. But time we never get back so we have to make good use of it! And I feel that my time spent here on Steemit is a very wise investment for my future and has already paid off ten-fold!
Over $17,000 Invested
Up until today I had invested over $17,000 into the Steem blockchain. Over $16,000 of this was put directly into Steem (powered up) and the rest was used to purchase servers for my Steem Witness and Seed Node. Due to the downward trend of the overall crypto market, I'm currently down over $7,000 on my Steem investment and my witness is very new so I'm losing money ($200+) every month with server expenses. You can change that by voting me for witness. 😉
But even though I'm down on my investment, my faith in the blockchain hasn't shaken. In fact, with each passing month my bullish feelings for the blockchain grow stronger and stronger. And today I'm happy to announce that I've invested another $1,000 into Steem Power which has been powered up into my @travelpreneur channel! They say to buy low and sell high so there's really no better time than now to double down on your crypto portfolio. And Steem should be one of your top coins to hold for the long-term. We've seen a lot of work from the Steem Development Team in 2018 already, which should catapult us into a very strong 2019. So get ready!
Investing with Brain Power?
Brandon, how are you investing with Brain Power? I'm glad you asked. And I'm not referring to our blockchain algorithm which is sometimes called Delegated Proof of Brain (DPoB). As explained in the Steem Bluepaper, DPoB is meant to emphasize the human work required to distribute tokens to community participants. But yes, I am using my brain in this way. But now I'm using it in other ways as well.
Last week I decided to begin learning Javascript so that I can start building applications and programs for the Steem Blockchain. In case you didn't know, my college studies included programming, web design, database administration, and network security among many other things. But I never took programming too seriously. So over the years (when I've needed programming done) I've just hired someone to do the job. But those days will soon be over as I'm tackling programming head on and adding it to my toolbox for the future!
I chose Javascript as my first programming language to study because of it's many uses. It can be utilized in many runtime environments, including node.js (server side) as well as every modern web browser thanks to Chrome's open-source Chrome V8 Engine. In fact, the software for my upvote bot was created completely using Javascript. Also, Steem has it's own Javascript Library which is aptly named Steem.js. With the Steem.js API you can interface with the Steem blockchain through a CDN without downloading the full version of the blockchain. How awesome is that!? This will allow me to build a host of useful applications for my fellow content creators. 🤓
My Future Plans for Steemit
So far my Steemit journey has involved creating content, connecting with other users, educating new users about the blockchain (plus, the platforms built on it), and providing services to improve the on-boarding of users to the platform and help them to gain exposure. But as with anything I do in life, I always feel that there is more I can achieve. So in the near future I hope to build applications and software which can help both content creators and investors here on the Steem blockchain. Both are VERY important to our survival and we should be doing everything we possibly can to keep them here. And I plan to continue doing my part to the fullest!
If you'd like to support my work and my vision for the future of Steemit, please consider voting @brandonfrye for witness. Each vote goes a long way!

It will be great to see what you can come up with in the development side! I really think that the blockchain still needs a good mobile option.
I agree. I’ve personally just been using the Steemit.com site in safari on my iPhone and it works just fine but an app would be great, especially with notifications built in. I know Steemit Inc has that in their roadmap but it’s been pushed back for other things. Honestly we need more developers to take charge and not rely so heavily on Steemit Inc.
Congrats @gamercrypt, you won a free upvote from the @brandonfrye upvote bot. Thanks for your continued support and for consistently sharing in the conversation on my channel. You're very much appreciated! :)
Cheers to another 1000 sp invested brandon! I can't wait to see what you come up with next! Double cheers on the Javascript!!! Bring on those apps bro!!! HUGE FAN...of all you're doing for this blockchain!!!!! THANK YOU!
Much appreciated, @rawutah! This blockchain is still sooo young. There's much to be added and improved and I hope to be a key player in its evolution. :)
Excellent @brandonfrye. I’ve been a follower of yours for a while now and it is exciting to see you branching out into other avenues to help enhance the value of our blockchain while giving back to the community. Looking forward to any apps that you end up creating...I’m sure they will be great 💪🏻

Thanks @kenmelendez, I appreciate the support brother! I'm excited to finally be able to build some apps for fellow content creators to use. I wish I had taken programming more serious in college, but hey it's never too late! And now I'm super focused on it. Here's to whatever the future holds! :)
And thanks for the witness vote, Ken. That helps a lot! :)
Great stuff. I think all your hard work will pay off.

I'm really excited about what the future holds for Steem. We're still in our infancy and there's much to be added to this incredible blockchain. I know that you and I will play our part in the future of Steem and I can't wait to see what 2019 will look like. Hard to believe I got started here just 7 short months ago and I had no idea what I was doing. Just wanted to write some posts and see what happened. I guess I see what happened.. I became a little obsessed with Steem/Steemit LOL. :)
Woot! Don’t give up, JavaScript is awesome.
Learn the core JS stuff first, because frameworks come and go. Once you master the core language you can easily pickup whichever framework is hot (e.g. React is hot right now.)
I agree that the development velocity around the STEEM Blockchain is exciting. Power Up!
Thanks for the advice, @torrey.blog. That's my plan. Luckily my C++ programming classes didn't go completely to waste lol. The functions, expressions, and logic seem very similar which is great. I've also heard of React so look forward to using that as well. So much to learn! :)
Great! JavaScript is kinda similar to C++. However, in JavaScript, semi-colons are optional. If you think semicolons are ugly just leave them out. :)
Great to see you back in the saddle! Prices are definitely great to accumulate here and while we wait for improvements investing in oneself by knowledge is great! Look forward to what you can bring with learning the code!
Absolutely, this is a great time to accumulate some more coins no matter what's in your portfolio. :)
I'd like to use your offer about sending SBD & you upvote me .
I like to delegate steem power for long time but I didn'y succeded yet can you tell how, please.
You really have invested a whole lot into the blockchain, and its very much appreciated (well, at least by me)
Good luck on learning javascript , looking forward to all the awesome stuffs you will build with that knowledge and expertise.
I appreciate the support and encouragement @audreybits. :)
☺
LOL You are a brave brave brave man....I'm not joking when I say I tried to learn PHP about a decade ago and ended up misspelling HTML on the career college exam I took...Pathetic LOL
But that's intriguing dude. Interesting to see you planning some applications and the like...Let me know when you feel comfortable coding cause I got an idea that's sitting here and I haven't ben able to move on it cause...Well...
How do you spell HTM-EL again?
Lol, the whole reason I even posted this articles is so that I can't give up! I know that if I make a declaration (blog post telling everyone) then I'll stick to it and follow through with my plans. Have to put it out there in the universe first. :)
And definitely, I think the both of us could come up with some useful tools for our fellow content creators. Perhaps even a brand new front-end, but gotta start small first. Anyways, I'm really looking forward to it!
I haven't invested any currency yet but I invested plenty of time over the past 180 ish days I been here.
Good luck with you account.
And that's exactly what I love about this platform. Even those who don't invest money can use the platform and even earn rewards. It's brilliant! Thanks for the support, @rentmoney!
