Wise words: To do what is right and just is more acceptable to the LORD than sacrifice, Proverbs 21:3

The ritual prescriptions about the sacrifices in the Bible are described in the Book of Leviticus, between the first and seventh chapters (Leviticus 1-7). The practice of sacrifices had a significant importance in the history of Israel and Christianity; from Abraham, whom God asked to sacrifice his son Isaac in the book of Genesis (Genesis 22:2), to the crucifixion of our Lord Jesus where the "son of man" appeared as a sacrifice for the sins of all mankind.
In the old testament there were purificatory sacrifices to expiate sins, thanksgiving sacrifices, and also sacrifices to request some blessing. But as many prophets warned, these rites, which were intended to recognize the authority of God, became many times in merely external rites: "For I desire mercy, not sacrifice, and acknowledgment of God rather than burnt offerings" Hosea 6:6.
When Israel forgot their spiritual relationship with the Lord, asking for wisdom to live, and hearts hardened, it was when God stopped listening and the problems of people began, as a result of errors: "Therefore tell the people: This is what the LORD Almighty says: ´Return to me,´ declares the LORD Almighty, ´and I will return to you,´ says the LORD Almighty" Zachariah 1:3.
That is why the book of proverbs reminds us, with wise and intelligent words, that the prosperity and development of every society are based on justice and righteousness (golden rule), and not on external rites that often take on the appearance of a mask: "To do what is right and just is more acceptable to the LORD than sacrifice," Proverbs 21:3.
The Sacred Scriptures explain to us, that our relationship with God and his law can only be sustained on love and true worship: "Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength" Deuteronomy 6:5.
