Windsurfing.tv roadtrip to the Defi Wind

Ben Proffitt and I spent last week on a Windsurfing.tv roadtrip down from the UK to France and the Defi Wind in Guissan. The event is the largest windsurfing race in the world with 1300 competitors and over a 1000 people starting the race at the same time. The wind was forecast for the opening day so Ben and I made an idiot's guide to the Defi, with him experiencing the race for the very first time.

We actually carried on our way south after the event to check in on the PWA foil event happening in the Costa Brava. We filmed for the next film whilst there and again learned a lot by seeing what was going on amongst the racers!!

As you can see the riders are getting better and better so the racing is getting closer and faster!! It's pretty exciting to watch, hopefully will show that in the upcoming film I'm making. After this little stop we headed down the coast and actually did some windsurfing ourselves!! I had my first go ever on a foil and picked it up quite quickly, it is a really unique feeling . . .

I guess how you maybe imagine a hoverboard from Back to the Future to feel like . . .

A big thanks goes to Ben, driving the whole way, laugh a minute, lending his gear err and paying me!! hahaha

Back home now and enjoying the beautiful green of the gardens, hanging out with the family and friends in summer time is great. Bunty's Blog shows how plentiful our garden is getting now . . .

Once I have made some more foil films I'll update on steemit.

Okay ... wow. I live across the street from English Bay and so I have seen a windsurfer ot two but the foil is something I have never seen. Windsurfing 2.0, if you ask me. I envy you your trip to France and Spain too and all that sunshine and water. Sounds and looks like it was a blast:):):)

I'm sure you will start seeing the windsurf foil in English Bay soon @prydefoltz it's not going to take over from windsurfing just become a super fun light wind alternative :)

Does it take more skill?

Not really, I've only done it for 20mins and as an experienced windsurfer I found it very easy to pick up. It's would be interesting to see how a beginner would go learning directly on a foil . . . I'm feeling an interesting Windsurfing.tv video feature coming up!!

The shots are incredible, I like that sport, it is very extreme (for my taste) but you can see that it is the best to practice it, keep it up like that!

@iamsaray yes it is extreme and serene in equal measure . . . This is why it is such an awesome feeling just blasting along on your own but and even more amazing sensation blasting along with 1000 plus sailors including some of the fastest guys and girls in the world!!

Honestly never seen such sport competition live. Is surfing and wind surfing same. It is a good read I came across today.

People used to say any sport in water is less dangerous than the other, but here around thousand people surfing together is quite an interesting stuff.

Good snaps too...

Thank you @angelro surfing is lying on a board, paddling onto waves that then drive you along using gravity as the energy source. Windsurfing is more akin to sailing, the energy created by the shape of the sail from the wind passing over it is like that of an aircraft wing and once you have enough speed you can steer the board like surfing using the planing rails of your board to carve and turn. Sometimes in windsurfing when the wind is light you can gently float past the waves and then using the wind rather than paddling catch the waves and then surf the board like surfing but to do this well you have to understand apparent wind and surf with the sail as well. . .

Woohoo got to witness amazing windsurfing sport again. I can call it a sport right? This part of your life is serious fun, you also filled me with some extra energy with your video :):)

Yes @vibesforlife it is a seriously fun sport!! Best addiction you can have IMHO

Oooo, I like IMHO - In my humble opinion, did not know this one.I will use it in office today hehehe

Wooaw, such an amazing surfing you guys have at your end. In fact i only knew of just the normal sea surfing where on tries to be faster than the waves. This is my first time of watching a windsurfing video and i really enjoyed it. Get experience you guys had and maybe I might surf through the wind ..lol

Each second spent on your videos and work were worth the time. Good work and keep the surfing spirit up

Good to hear you enjoyed the video @ferrate plenty more coming, I assure you . . .

I can't wait to see them then. And you are welcome too

I really admire these guys for being so brave and for practicing day in day out in order to win. It is hard work but it worth it. They are out, enjoying the fresh air and the sun. The photos are stunning by the way. The blue water always makes me happy.

Yes @erikah these guys and girls might not be on the big bucks but they sure have a good time earning a living!!
