Higher Curation Rewards Already Flowing In Post HF21 - Bid Bots Scoring Even bigger
Well, is seems that HF21 went through slightly better than HF20 did, and the effect of the fork are already starting to show for curation rewards. Does the new curation reward structure encourage holding higher Steem Power?
Here is my very modest curation rewards chart from steemdb.com.
My meager 600-odd SP curation reward jumped quite significantly overnight, to around double what I was earning pre-hf21. That's not bad for a bit of voting, and certainly helps to keep my rewards ticking up while I'm not posting all that frequently!
The thing is, it hasn't really redistributed rewards across accounts, but rather only taken away from authors, and given a bigger share to curators. It has just made it easier for bigger accounts to earn more rewards by doing the same or lesser amount of work. I can see why the bid bots are coming under attack now. They are now scoring even bigger curation rewards, and adding little to no value to the platform other than selling votes to anyone who comes along with a few STEEM, regardless of the content they are producing.
Just take a look at how therising is doing under the new configuration:
While there are other really good initiatives out there, who deserve the greater rewards, like @curie, which manually seeks out good content and rewards the posts handsomely, some would argue the whole change is bad. I can understand how many feel the bid bots don't deserve the curation rewards they receive. From a business case HF21 is a very lucrative outcome for them, but from a social and "quality curation" standpoint it is a destructive change. The separation of voting power into upvote- and downvote-percentage is one of the ways the social aspect of the change is being addressed, and many high-SP accounts are flagging post of anyone who uses bidbots. Perhaps that will go some way to deter bid bot useage?
I'm looking forward to seeing how this plays out. Will hf21 see the demise of the bid bots, or will the"War on The Bots" fizzle out and life return to pre-hf21 days, with the hot and trending pages still remaining irrelevant?

The Steem adventure continues!
Have a great day.
We have to make use of those downvotes. Has anyone set up a reputable downvoting trail?
A downvote bot to fight the bots...🤔
Just when you think things might start getting better on Steemit, the balance completely shifts yet again. We already have an epidemic of dishonesty, scams and fraudulent behaviour to contend with. Bidbots have been wreaking havoc on this platform almost since its inception.
So, STINC can improve the blockchain with features like SMT's and change the curation window all they want, nothing is being done to make this place attractive to new users and investors. Investing in Steem right now is the equivalent of throwing a briefcase of money out of a plane flying above the pacific ocean. It won't make a noticeable impact.
Can't argue with you there. Unfortunately it's everywhere you go, and worse on some other Steem clones.
Personally, I think these added "tokens" through SMT or whatever has brought them about, has had a negative impact on the value of STEEM, with any Tom, Dick or Harry able to create yet another worthless token. Too many shiny, worthless decorations hanging from a sick tree...
The trending pages are allegedly better but I never look at them anyway so am only saying stuff I’ve read 😆
I’m optimistic 🙃

Let's see where this takes us, we have no choice in the matter but to be led along the path determined by Stinc. Price, to me is a fundamental indicator of the health of steemit. Bitcoin may be dictating price too of course, but where Bitcoin climbed in the start of the bull run this year, Steem price has fallen. Show me an improvement in price and I will show you that it's working. At the moment it's not working. We are losing money day by day. I pity the folks that bought steem with dollars, or even worse Bitcoin. Dollars are a better investment than steem now, tragic as that sounds. I will not be buying steem at all. No way. Only a fool will buy steem now. There is zero reason to buy, price tells me so.
Hopefully I will see buying confirmation if an uptrend resumes. All the writing we did and the steem we earned is going down the drain now, who wants to waste more time and effort on this sinking price? Not me. Do you want to hear a sugar coated version of TA? Or do you want to look at the facts?
Excellent article B. Reveals much of what was not talked about.
Good analysis mate. It's still a bit early for me and so the jury is out but you've got to the core of it with this question :-
"Will hf21 see the demise of the bid bots, or will the"War on The Bots" fizzle out..."
I think the vote sellers have too much stake to be losing a flag war, but the old Bid Bot model might now be a bit outdated. Insta-selling is probably the new way to game the system most effectively.
@bmj
This is going to be a very interesting period I agree. If it does have an impact (by getting rid of them) on the bid bots, I'll be pleased. What you don't mention, though, is the potential impact of the downvotes and how these might be used. So far, so good, but HF21 isn't even 48 hours old.
Need a week to see what transpires, some say yeah others nay, stats won't lie so it's safest to sit back and watch a little bit longer.
