WhatsApp may soon allow you to alter text messages that have already been delivered.

WhatsApp users may soon be able to correct mistakes and errors in text messages that have been sent. WhatsApp users have been asking the ability to edit text messages for years, and it appears like the capability may be coming shortly.

WhatsApp is working on an edit button, according to WABetainfo, that would allow users to make changes to messages after they have been delivered. Because there is no edit button on WhatsApp, users have long utilized the asterisk to indicate spelling fixes, with the other alternative being to delete the message entirely. Users, on the other hand, may soon have a more expedient approach to remedy spelling mistakes. In the screenshot below, you can see the edit button and the process of editing a message in action.

Users will have to long-press on a sent message and select the three-dot menu to edit it. Users can make necessary modifications to the original message and resend it after selecting the edit option. It's unclear if there will be a time limit for message editing.

The plan to add an edit button to WhatsApp dates back to 2017. The first proof of the edit capability was discovered in WhatsApp beta version 2.17.26 for Android. The capability, however, was never made available to end customers. It's worth mentioning that Telegram, WhatsApp's main competitor, has long enabled users to edit their conversations.

The edit option is still in the works and hasn't been made available to WhatsApp users yet. The functionality will most likely debut in the beta channel first, as with all WhatsApp tests. In other news, WhatsApp Messages Reactions are now available to all users. Similar to iMessage and Instagram, the function allows users to send rapid emoji reactions to text messages.
