Defining “Design”
Design’ the word itself is multi-faceted and contains so many meanings. At first, I thought that design was an area only for, people who majored in art and fashion; and who possess extraordinary creativity. Whenever I go to art museum I see so many paintings and art installations, where the works itself embedded one’s philosophy and style.
Design has many potential possibilities because everybody has different thoughts and philosophies in terms of creating their own design. That is the reason why each work or design is different and unique. I know that it does sounds bit vague.
I personally think design’s most important components are
- Creativity
- Own perspective & Uniqueness
- Communication (in terms of Explaining work or Engaging in discussion)
Last, but not least design doesn’t have right or wrong answers. It portrays individual thought and creativity. If I were to describe design to the objects, it would be like Russian traditional doll. If you open the doll, there comes another doll and so on and so forth.
When you study design, each time, you always come up with different ideas and continue communicating with the audience to make either better design or artwork. It is the process of improving own’s work.
Like I mentioned above about Russian traditional doll, when you open the doll, there will be always different ideas and improvement. Design itself will always be shifting and improving due to the environment as well.
