3 Proven Tips to Help You Lose Weight Today!
Tip #1
Eat Breakfast
According to a 2011 Huffington Post article 31 million Americans skip breakfast every single day and thus to help maximize their weight gain. Your body has been fasting all night long, so skipping breakfast puts the body in starvation mode. This results in the body slowing down its metabolism for the whole day, which creates a larger appetite for dinner. In order to prevent your body from going into starvation mode, start your day by eating breakfast, as it is the most important meal of the day. Breakfast will revive your metabolism from its fasting state, which took place when you were sleeping, and help curb your appetite throughout the day. Studies have shown people who eat breakfast tend to be skinner than people who skip breakfast.
Tip #2
Eat Every Three Hours
Eating every three hours keeps your metabolism working all day. It helps maintain proper blood sugar control, which prevents fat storage; and keeps your hunger hormones in check, which ensures better portion control and no over-eating. Sumo Wrestlers avoid breakfast and other snacks, and only eat 1 to 2 meals a day. Usually, Sumo Wrestlers binge eat at night to ensure a great caloric surplus, which increases insulin release and fat storage, for maximum weight gain.
Tip #3
Get Good Quality Sleep
This is probably asking for a lot but we as a society are not getting enough sleep. We live in fast paced society where we are constantly on the go but that lifestyle is also helping in the obesity epidemic. Studies have shown that poor sleep is an important indicator of obesity. People who sleep less tend to gain weight due to through the activation of hormonal responses leading to an increase in appetite and caloric intake and thus increase the risk of obesity. As there are many causes on why sleep is important to aid in weight loss just remember 7-9 hours of sleep is associated better weight loss and weight control than with people who sleep less than 7 hours a night. Make quality sleep a habit in your life as this will provide you with a plethora of health benefits.
I agree with Tip #3, but definitely not with Tip #1 and only partially with Tip #2. A lot has happened in science since the HuffPo article was written in 2011. Just because sumo wrestlers have a certain dietary practice that makes them extremely large and fat does not mean that we should just do the opposite and therefore we will become skinny. We should definitely do things differently if we want to be a healthy size, but not just the straight opposite. We need to understand what exactly about the sumo diet makes them fat.
Thank you for your comments. I think it is a different approach people are doing these fad diets that promise them weight loss but only harms there bodies in the long run. I want people to enjoy food and eat more of the right foods to lose weight. I agree there has been a lot of research done on Intermittent dieting and the benefits. The question I ask all my patients are
I agree besides the Huntington post article there has been several studies about eating the proper foods often for better blood sugar stabilization and in turn weight loss.
I definitely see some of your points are valid and I think we have to start somewhere if we are serious in battling this obesity epidemic.
