Weekend Freewrite 1/6/2018 - Single Prompt Option: my shoe got stuck in the mud - My Entry
As the first drops of rain began to fall it was like someone had just punched me in the gut. Our crop of red beans would be ready to pick in less than a week and a rain today could mean mold sets in and ruins it all. Our early patch was already harvested and laid out to dry in the sun. I realized with a cold sense of dread that if we didn't get those covered they would be lost as well.
I ran to the shed to grab a sheet of plastic and by the time I got back to the beans it was already beginning to rain heavily. I was too late. Half an acre of beans and hundreds of hours of work will now mold and rot in the tropical heat. Sometimes nature can sure be unforgiving. I felt like crying but knew it wouldn't help a damn thing.
Running around wrestling with the plastic in the wind my shoe got stuck in the mud. I didn't even go back for it. Getting the beans covered was the only thing that mattered. I can't handle this kind of loss two years in a row.

I guess I'd better do a freewrite where I get a bumper crop to make up for the loss :-)

The stress of having to protect against nature to preserve the harvest must be high! Were you able to get everything saved?

Thanks but don't worry :-) This was purely a work of fiction...a brief alternate universe that came into being in five minutes.
