Wednesday Walk - Mural in Jersey Heights

in #wednesdaywalk6 years ago

This is my #wednesdaywalk post, a great challenge initiated by @tattoodjay. Open to anyone, check the rules here: Wednesday Walk Challenge Rules

This mural is in the heart of Jersey Heights. It is painted on a building that houses a day care.

COMMUNITY - FAMILY - LOVE - CULTURE - UNITY

There is a park nearby and I saw some nice pink flowers that probably inspired the artist. Well... flowers inspire all artists.

Those words from the mural keep ringing in my ears. This community is mostly Hispanic. It is so strong, to the point that you MUST speak Spanish. I don't... so it bothers me. Many non-Hispanics felt the same and moved away.

So, my question is: Why bother painting those words in English? Nobody understands them anyway.

And you want to know something funny? There are many local mini-buses here that go to New York. NEW YORK. A proper name. Every body understands the proper name New York. Guess what? People here say Nueva York. For real... The bus drivers, when they stop to pick up passengers, they shout "Nueva York".

Come on already, that's ridiculous.

The mural is amazing and the words are beautiful. I can understand your thoughts on the Spanish being used instead of English, but, as a person who has lived in different countries most of my adult life, I can tell you that I would be ecstatic when someone would use an English term when I first moved there. I did learn a little bit of the language everywhere I went, but, there is a learning curve...

Oh, yes! Keeping up with everything is a task!!!

Have a most wonderful night~! Happy WednesdayWalk!

Maybe the artist understands the words if no one else does there, but thats crazy that is what they say on the buses

I love that mural and the cool flowers

Thanks for joining Wednesday Walk :)

You’re welcome, I am trying to keep up with everything, posting, discord, walking ha ha. Busy busy.

Ohh I know never enough hours in the day it’s a story to keep up

I loved seeing the stret art over in New York city and Brooklyn from recent visits. It has been many years since I went to Jersey (2006) and I can't remember any art at all from that visit now. Thanks for reminding me of a great place to revisit.

Things change fast. Some street art comes overnight. I just noticed the other day one work in progress, can’t wait to see the final result.

🎁 Hi @starjewel! You have received 0.1 SBD tip from @dswigle!

@dswigle wrote lately about: Wednesday Walk In Living Color Feel free to follow @dswigle if you like it :)

Sending tips with @tipU - how to guide :)

That's a beautiful mural and the flowers on the tree is very eye catching. I got pulled in right when I took my first glance at it. I like how he puts the city in the background without much color, almost to say that the nature aspect of things is more important.

The grafitti is first pic is so nice, bright lovely colors. And the flowers, they are so pretty not sure what their name is.

Thanks for sharinng :)

Very bright colors indeed. Thanks for stopping by. 😊

Those flowers with the white outlines look really nice.
Also, that mural is huge! I wish that was on a wall near me. Our buildings are so boring usually.
I guess there are nearly as many Spanish speakers in North and South America these days as English speakers.
I guess it wouldn't be that hard to learn compared to languages that use completely different grammar structures, root words and alphabets.

I don't know, to me it seems like it's okay if the bus driver uses some of the common parlance of the community. The names of things change depending on who is describing them and where they are from. For example, we say "Florence" when referring to Florence Italy. But the proper name is Firenza.

I'll never forget a trip I once took to Israel. I wanted to visit Bethlehem at Christmas time. I was only there for a few days, on a layover from another long-term stay. I asked a local person how to get to Bethlehem and he had no idea what I was talking about. Finally I pointed to the name on a map and he said, "Ah, Bet-LECH-hem!" I was not using the proper name!

Your pictures are lovely. The mural is amazing.

Of course, that’s right when you are a tourist. But we live here, in New Jersey, at the border with New York. Different story.

resteeming this beautiful post.

Beautiful murals. Nice to about “Nueva York” @starjewel 👍🏻

Reading this feels like I’ve been there.
Thanks & jeep it coming! ❤️
