A Fifty Step Wednesday Walk In Verse
oblique light.
with shorter days comes
longer sight
Maybe it's the sun hitting me full on the face
that has me pondering the ineffable
or the unsaid
and looking for answers
at my feet
It doesn't suck
to not know the name
of a color
Oh let me drink my fill of this!
this weird hanging on of the leaves
massages my eyes
and I forget
for a moment
about my aching knee
Surprise!
That odd splotch in the last photo
is a cat
about to transport up
Who is it that once said
No post is complete without a picture of a cat?
It may be in nearly every front yard in America
a plant that most of us pass by without thought
but it does have its moments
Hydrangea -
lime light in summer
vine ripe in fall
I still can't walk far without consequences, but I can hobble out a ways from my front door - perfect fodder for a #wednesdaywalk post hosted by @tattoodj. If you haven't had the pleasure, please check it out here
I've always thought #wednesdaywalk was a challenge of many personal gifts and this is what it gave me this week, wonder at the littlest things a short hobble from my front door, and an irresistable urge to write poetry.
Thank you for coming along.
All the poems above are completely spontaneous freewrites. The haiku (in the 3/5/3 style of mizu no oto by @bananfish) is the best of the bunch. It's a fantastic haiku, eh @marcoricardi? I'd spent hours on the images for this post, and that haiku just popped out as you suggested it might! What a rush!
This is also my entry for @mariannewest's daily freewrite challenge here even though it has nothing whatsoever to do with the prompt "night shift". I just think those folks might like my post, and they are a forgiving bunch.
All images are my own unless otherwise stated.
What a wonderful #WednesdayWalk!
I loved it! It reminded me of Robert Frost. He also had a good eye for nature love his works and yours too!

Well it sure does not suck to get a compliment like that! Thank you!
How did the birthday family fare?
Thanks for joining Wednesday Walk :)
Sorry for short comment this week busy spending time with Grandkids :)
I totally understand!
Loved all the photos, the textures and colors were fascinating. And such a pretty cat! Also liked your poem captions. :)) Nice job!
Thank you! I'm running through the other entries now, and just realized I am not reading the text, so others are probably not reading mine! So thank you for slowing down enough to read my little musings. Wednesdaywalks need to be enjoyed slowly, both by the writer and the readers.
@owasco I hope that now in your night shift and your knee does not bother you anymore. Otherwise very good photography where the cat is among the leaves.
Thank you!
Beautiful photos @owasco, here's today's challenge.
