An evening stroll along New Road in Bangkok
New Road was the first official road in Siam. This road runs along the Chao Phraya River. It was built during the reign of King Rama V as a result of a written petition by all the foreign ambassadors and European merchants living in Bangkok. So, this area became the first developed commercial hub full of traders, shops, European companies, shipping ports and warehouses.
Vendors selling hats with plastic shields against Covid19 and several kinds of facial masks plus hand sanitisers.
This old lady always sits at her same spot selling jasmine garlands in the evening. She often gives me an extra garland whenever I buy ten garlands at a time. She’s very generous with jasmine flowers and her garlands are always bigger than others.
I like to watch people at the busy bus stop and those crazy bus drivers zooming in and out at the bus stop. You’ll have to hold the railing very tight otherwise you’ll be hurled to-and-fro like a ship during a storm.
These are the ‘hot buses’ without air-conditioning and there is a flat fair for the whole journey. There are the small and long buses; it’s common knowledge that drivers of the smaller buses are crazy bus racers!
The bazaar by the Robinson is closed under lockdown and curfew. So, all the small eateries and food stalls could not be found. Life has become abnormal!
People are rushing home before the curfew at 10pm!
I always take a look at the river whenever I come for a walk in this area, just to get some fresh air.
Wishing you all happy lockdown weekend!
Cheers.
Nice to see you out and supporting the street vendors and the river always a must for that fresh air i certainly agree.
Take care my friend and stay safe it will be all back to normal real soon !!
Thank you very much! This lockdown is getting on many people ‘s worries about the future.
I hope that things will be back to normal very soon! My friend told me that 10 million Thai people will be unemployed! I would expect big upheavals by the end of the year!
Things have changed irrevocably and this is just the beginning.
Pray for the best!
Take care.
It really is a worry and this is happening all around the world we can only do our best stay safe and positive my friend !!
Take care my friend :)
It's sad to see the streets so empty @kaminchan but it was heart warming to read about the dear lady who sells the jasmine garlands giving you extra big flowers. What a sweetie. Stay well, my friend.
Thank you very much!
Phew! The blockchain was down they whole day!
Yes, this nice lady was very generous to me. I guess she remembered me by now.
Cheers.
Bangkok looks like a busy place. I was there only a few days and then went on to Pattaya for a month. Thailand is a nice country to live in. How many Baht are the hats in the picture?
It’s about 200 baht. Quite a good price!
Time is hard so they can’t be expensive!
So, you have been in Pattaya for a month!! Lucky you! Love the fresh sea air and good food there! I haven’t been there for ages; but I used to go there almost every weekend! Good old days!
You don’t like big cities!
