Seymour, ein seltsamer splieniger Typ, arbeitet in einem kleinen Blumenladen. Um seinen Chef, Mr. Mushnick, zu imponieren und seine unbedarfte Tochter zu erobern, versucht er eine Pflanze zu züchten, die alle anderen übertreffen soll. Ein paar Tropfen Blut aus seinen Fingern - und schon beginnt die Blume zu wachsen. Sie will mehr und mehr Blut und ist hungrig nach Menschenfleisch. Seymour muss sich immer mehr einfallen lassen, um die gierige Pflanze zu füttern. Bei Nacht und Nebel schleppt er Leichen heran, die Horrorpflanze wächst und gedeiht zimmerhoch. Bis Seymour für seinen Erfolg einen hohen Preis zahlen muss.
