11. Vintage Tudor Oyster, why I sold it and why I am stupid

in #watch7 years ago (edited)

Firstly, these might be the worst quality pictures I'll ever post, but that's not important now haha!

How did I get a vintage Tudor?
It's fairly simple to be honest, I won a pretty good accumulator on Bwin with some football matches. It was like a 15 euro bet and the payout was just around 500 euro. Being a student without ''real'' income besides government student ''allowance'' (Yes that's a thing in the Netherlands) that was huge for me, I could finally get something nice for myself. So I went on Ebay, bid on this piece, and got it for 420 euro.

Why a vintage Tudor?
Being already interested in watches, and wanting something with a bit of name and history. With my just acquired price range it just had to be something vintage. It was between Omega and Tudor. Then after a good solid 2 hours of searching on Ebay, I found this piece. I just fell in love with it. A little bit of patina on the dial, pretty clean case. Most of all, it had a Rolex crown and backcase, mannnn I just fanboyed so hard over that. Thinking I could be all interesting with it, ''Yeah my watch is almost a Rolex, parent company blablabla''. Do mind, I was about 21, but still very teenager like. Thinking back about that, it was just so silly, I didn't appreciate Tudor that much at that moment, I just wanted the ''almost'' Rolex.

(This picture is 8-bit kind of bad, it's all I had, sorry)

Do I still have the watch?
Nope, I sold it to a dealer for almost the same price I bought it for, which is a pretty nice deal to be fair. I needed the the money for something I don't even remember. It was stupid and impulsive to sell that watch. Maybe I got bored of it, because I guess I wanted something more flashy.

Why am I stupid?
Not just for impulsively selling it, but mostly for not appreciating what the watch really was at that time. Vintage Tudor watches are freaking amazing timepieces. Mine was so clean compared to others. So now, after a couple of years, I realize how ignorant I was about the watch, I just wanted the Rolex logos... All I can think of now is, I want that damn TUDOR back! It even fitted my small wrists perfectly. It's just so classy, you can't get that anywhere nowadays.

All in all, I'm stupid, I'm stupid, I'm stupid and now I need to find another good one and they have probably gone up in price. Don't make the mistake I have made, and definitely don't be one of those guys that buys it for the wrong reasons. Appreciated the brand that you're buying!

Kind regards,
Ron
