Opium and Cocaine Production At Record Levels

The war on drugs has been ongoing for decades, costing billions of dollars every year for the government to police people's personal consumption habits.

The government wants to try and keep people safe from themselves by initiating violence for drug production, trade, and consumption, but that hasn't stopped the drug market from flourishing over the last several decades. The war on drugs hasn't prevented access for those who are determined to obtain controversial substances and a new report suggests that the annual overdose death toll is on the rise.

The drug overdose death toll is increasing despite the war on drugs.

"Legal drugs" are responsible for killing thousands, fueling what's been frequently described as an 'opioid epidemic'. Although, the most widely used drug in the world is cannabis and it is still severely restricted in many countries worldwide.

In 2017, more than 500,000 people reportedly died as a result of their drug use. In the United States, it's tens of thousands every year that are being lost from drug overdose. At least two-thirds of all drug deaths worldwide are associated with opioid abuse.

In 2016 drug overdoses killed more Americans than the Vietnam War.

Various state agencies have tried to balance medicinal access with their different restrictions on drug use for substances like cannabis, as they've introduced their legal framework, but there is still a great deal of violence involved, natural rights still being infringed upon and cannabis not legal in many circumstances despite the media hype. As well, the drug war and attempts by the state to squash drugs and drug addiction, over the past several decades hasn't worked as it hasn't deterred addiction, it hasn't reduced addiction, it's only fueled a tremendous amount of violence and suffering.

Today, opium and cocaine production are at record levels.

This is true despite the frequent drug seizures that continue to get bigger and bigger.

Eventually, we might need to accept the fact that not only does society have no moral justification to police the consumption habits and peaceful activities of other people, but even when we try to we fail miserably at trying to achieve the goal.

Drugs are still winning the fight and I suspect that they always will be.

It is even worse when you find out that the government that is trying to "get drugs off the streets" is the same government that sells them all. It isn't a war on drugs, it is a war on competition.

Read up about Mena airport, the clintons, and CIA cocaine planes..

why you think amerika attacked auganistan? they produce 80% of opium globally. first they stole the farms then they shipped back to amerika.

I agree thats why they are there. They ate burning harmless cannabis and forcing the farmers to grow poppies. At least the Taliban had control of how much opium was produced.

well heroin is more profitable than weed obviously!

The war will never end it's an ongoing thing. The thing that makes me think is that most drugs come from a plant in this instance it's a poppy. Surely theres a way to control the poppy population?
