Can someone explain it to me like I’m old?

I can see why the editorial staff is upset because their authority was usurped. They may see that as a violation of their self-concept of the job or their integrity. But that’s of no consequence to me.

As for the newspaper as a whole, it’s under no obligation to take an editorial position on who should be president. I would still read them if they had said Trump should be president. Why would I get upset that they changed their history of taking sides?

More important: they are one of the few decent papers out there. But MAGA folks don’t trust them. This is very harmful to my society. If staying neutral gets 1% of those folks to start reading real news, it’s a huge benefit.
