Cryptocurrencies wallets for beginner [GUIDE]
Hi everyone!
Today I wrote this guide to explain the differences between the wallets for cryptocurriencies (bitcoin etc). I hope you like it.
For starters, I recommend a wallet that gives you control of your private key to restore the wallet to another computer (if yours breaks!).
- Hardware wallets (or offline wallets) - SAFETY 3/3
Hardware wallets is the safest place to deposit your coins. They are encrypted devices that connect to the computer via USB cable and usually resemble a usb pen drive. These are the best hardware wallets on the market:
Ledger Nano S (price: €69.60)
On ledger nano s you can deposit many different currencies at the same time. It can be used to deposit:
- Bitcoin
- Bitcoin Cash
- Bitcoin Gold
- Ethereum
- Ethereum Classic
- Litecoin
- Neo
- Dogecoin
- Zcash
- Ripple
- Dash
- Stratis
- Komodo
- Ark
- Expanse
- Ubiq
- Vertcoin
- Viacoin
- Stealthcoin
- Stellar
- Hcash
- Digibyte
- Qtum.
Trezor Wallet (price €89)
Trezor is similar to ledger nano s but it include a password manager and supports this cryptocurrencies:
- Bitcoin
- Litecoin
- DASH
- Zcash
- Bitcoin Cash
- Ethereum
- ERC-20 Tokens
I recommend the hardware wallet to hodl* your coins for more than a year.
- Desktop Wallets - SAFETY 2/3
Electrum for Bitcoin (free)
Electrum is a well known wallet and is open source! With this wallet you have control of your private keys. You can use it on Windows, Mac, Linux and Android.
N.B. Never send bitcoin cash to a bitcoin address.
There is also electrum for litecoin and electrum for verge.
MyEtherWallet.com (free)
I think this is the best wallet to keep ethereum and token erc20 (like EOS). It is an open source software and you will have control of private keys.
Exodus Wallet (free)
Exodus is a multi-currency wallet for desktop and is very easy to use. However it is a close-source software, so I recommend keeping a few coins.
- Mobile Wallets - SAFETY 2/3
Coinomi Universal Wallet (free)
Coinomi is a great wallet for smartphone and supports more than 100 coins and you have control of your private key. You can also exchange your coins with other coins because shapeshift is included.
Currently it is only available on Android but will soon be released for iPhone.
- Exchange as a wallet - SAFETY 1/3
Using an exchange to hodl* a lot of coins for a long time is very dangerous.
When you deposit your coins on an exchange you do not have control of your private key, furthermore an exchange could disappear at any moment. In the past many exchanges went bankrupt (for example Mt.Gox) and users lost their coins.
So use the exchange only for trading, but never for hodling*.
