Despite its northern location, Nova Scotia is known for having some of the warmest waters north of the Carolinas. And with 7500 km of coastline, there are a lot of beaches.

In Nova Scotia, it's impossible to be more than 67 km (42 mi) from the ocean.

It's Canada's Best Kept Secret

And Lord knows I've tried to blow it! I tell everyone about this magical place, I've tried to get alllllllll of my (2) friends to move here. I've been blessed to call Nova Scotia home for the last 4 years.

Our province doesn't even have a million people living in it, with an area of 55,284 square kilometres (21,300 sq mi). It's high tourist season right now and the highways are still mostly vacant.

I feel at peace everywhere we drive, never that tightening in my chest/jaw clenching/holyshithandle holding I felt while living in the city. And suburbs...what are those? Sure there are a few around Halifax but for the most part it's all trees, rocks and water with a few houses in between. Inexpensive houses...and land. Whyyyyyyy whyyyyyyyyyyyy won't you move here friends?

The Photos I've Shared So Far, Were From Our Beach Day Today

And more on that later. For now I will show you a few photos of our daily walk down to the water in our backyard.

We live in a deep cove of St. Margaret's Bay, part of the North Atlantic ocean. As soon as the tide gets high enough the boys and I run down to enjoy this beautiful summer to the fullest.

They swim almost every day, I usually just sit on the rocks with my feet in the water, reading my book, and watching them have fun. Every time I hear their delighted shrieks from finding some new life form, or when they hit a cold patch of water, I smile. This is what childhood is all about...

Early in the day it's always nice and shaded down there, makes it a lot cooler for me sitting on the rocks, yet the boys are a bit more tentative about getting in.

Even Edgar thinks it's not such a good idea to swim so early in the morning...

Stop worrying about what we're doing Edgar, don't you have babies to feed anyways?

They're not really babies anymore are they guys?

Our Beach Experience Today

We went with our friend Carol, and it was #justperfect to hit this particular beach at low tide. The boys had the whole place to themselves, to yell and play and discover.

Final Scenes

The water is so shallow at this beach, perfect for children.

They went out deep for a bit with their lifejackets on, and loved floating with the little waves. At that point I put the camera down and went out there to join them. No swimming for me but I did go in to my knees, and I dunked my head in, does that count?
