Haha, Dr Seuss green eggs!
My Mom used to read me that book, nice memories.
Just seeing your tasty buns has got me sending the staff out to the bakery for a freshly baked anything 😂
Those chickens really do keep you on your toes eh! I'm pretty sure they have strategic planning meetings in their coop at night to try and work out where to hide the eggs from you.
I love my daily trip to the Bowes Homestead 😉❤️
They are much more devious than I previously thought...and Darth Layer is a big part of "hatching" these diabolical plans...I'm on to her....
That's my girl. 🐔🐣
I'm sorry to hear one of yours is feeling off. Hope he's better real soon. What a smart idea that was about leaving a frozen no good egg out there to keep them laying. I too live right off a busy road and people are always being pulled over in my driveway or when it snows they tend to skid around the bend. Crow's are amazing birds. I share the same crow tattoo with my oldest daughter we both just picked different coloring to them. I have yellow and blue for the dawn and the night. Nikki has two shades of blue she loves. It's great to share the same tattoo with small differences. My youngest wants something that just I and her share as well when she's just a bit older. Sorry for going on so much. Another fantastic walkwithme indoor addition. : )
That is too cool that you and your daughter have matching tattoos and that your youngest is getting one too, you are one awesome family <3 <3 <3 I'd love to see the designs one day! <3 <3 <3
I love the 'look e loo' shots of you snooping on the car sitution, I would have done the same thing!
Concerning the crows with your chickens, have you ever had them take any chicks? I have known crows to take baby chicks quite easily. Although, maybe you haven't let your free range chickens hatch their own? Or have you?
MMMM coffee. I did a sort #walkwithme today into our village and I ended up having two coffees at two different places. But, I deserved it after a week of being frozen in our house!
You got some snow? We have had a melt for day two now. We are meant to get two days of high 50s (f) and thunderstorms and then another freeze! Oh heavens, not another freeze!
Again, I LOVE that apron. My five girls are now consistently laying every day, the little darlings.
Concerning using a dummy egg, I did that to show my girls what nest box to lay in and that worked. Of course mine are only indoor chickens right now with a tiny run, as I have not figured out how to out smart our local fox, so they cannot free range currently. I might solve that this summer with another flock or larger birds to sort of be a 'buffer', we shall see if that pans out.
Sorry I feel like Ieave you a long letter every time I post a reply.
I LOVE my letters from Donna!! Thank you so much for your meaningful replies!! I saw your walk just now, it was awesome, I'm so glad the weather warmed up, we're warm as hell here too, just for another day though then she's dropping again.
Glad your gals are laying consistently now, and no easter egg hunts in your future. We have hatched many many chicks, and because it was during spring and summer, the gals were locked in their run (to keep them out of the gardens), so we had no issues, thank heavens...
I know, I'm dreading the next drop. I don't think I can handle another two weeks of freeze, but one can one do? Spend more time on Steemit of course.
Do you just let the hens sit on what they like or do you give them certain breed eggs to hatch? I can't wait for one of my gals to go broody because I am going to order a dozen Cream Legbar eggs to stick under her. I am going to try a flock of these to see if they will aide in our chickens being better at free ranging. They are supposed to be great free rangers and they are sex linked so you know what you have, hen or rooster, at hatch! I can't wait for Spring!
We were putting under our own eggs last spring/summer. This year we are going to get some fertilized silkie eggs and hatch those. We may also hatch our own breed of chicks for neighbours, but won't be keeping any of our own, in our flock. Too many of the same genes, need new blood in here. :)
That is a good idea. I can't say enough good things about silkies as pets. They are so gentle and loving and make great mothers, they'll hatch anything. The only downside is they are always at the bottom of the pecking order and are not too predator proof. If your flock hatches and raises them though they should just accept them straight on and protect them I suppose, right? I can't wait to see silkie chicks!
Oh wait I missed that bit, your own breed! I hav alwyas wnated to do this and try for specific traits. The gene study of this is so interesting. Have you ever been on the online backyardchickens forum? The level of breeding and scientific records some of the cross breeders keep are really interesting, well if you are a chicken nerd they are ;)
Yessss, backyardchickens is my go to chicken bible of info! I've gotten so much knowledge from there!
I so appreciated my morning walk with you @lyndsaybowes. I too am blessed with chickens and a holistic life. I love your egg apron!! That's a great idea for the kids here who like to collect eggs! Brilliant!
I live in community at the @gardenofeden. If you haven't heard of us, I'm sure you will find we have much in common. Upvoting and following you. I feel we have much to share! Infinite blessings to you.
Infinite blessings to you too! xoxo You're doing great work!
Instruction manuals would be so much more fun to read if you wrote them. :)
YAY!!! I've never heard someone tell me that before haha, I'm flattered!
i came here to say the same thing! plus, "fuck tonne" is the correct spelling - dont believe those fools that tell you to lose those those last two letters.
Bwa hahahaa!!! Noiiiiiice!!
How did I get to be this old and not know about at eggpron? And I call myself a chicken rancher, I am ashamed... LOL!
I am a fellow coffee snob, home roast my own. I am pretty low maintenance but don't hand me bad coffee, please!
Oooh we gotta hook you up with an eggpron, you will love this!! Never smash an egg in your pocket again! <3 <3 Hugs, from one coffee snob to another @fishyculture!! xoxo
Hello @lyndsaybowes
It is foggy here too and i am enjoying my rest with blanket but yes i have to go to work :(
But let me tell you your way to enjoy the life is too damn beautiful
Kid is so cute ♡ get well soon young man
Mr. Pendock is missing again
Your cooking and that coffee made me hungry
Enjoy the life as you are doing and lets spread the peace together
Stay Blessed My Friend :-)
When I went out to take pictures of the chickens, Mr. Pendock was already up on his roost. He likes to go to bed really, really early. Him and about 8 of the older hens retire long before sun down, and all the teenagers stay out until the last moment before dark. Thanks for always making such meaningful comments @salmanbukhari54. You are a wonderful friend.
Oh Mr. Pendock seems an early to bed early to rise mind set :D
In my other house i have many hens too :)
I have pictures of Mr. Banko ( Friend of Mr. Pendock) but due to low internet capacity or speed pics are not uploading here i will show you another time for sure @lyndsaybowes
Oooooh my goodness, he is soooooooo sweet looking, really looks like he has a good temperament :) xoxo Mr. Pendock flaps his wings and says Hi!
Actually I had the same rooster in 2013 but someone stole that beautiful creature Mr. Pendock looks alike him. That is why i like Pendock a lot <3
He is so Dashing ;) @lyndsaybowes by the way i am also very happy as i wrote today my introductory post and pay my sweet Hi too to Mr. Pendock ;)
Hope your son is getting better soon. With only one police car, you must live in a very safe place. Just like beacons, ham is from pigs. ;-) Raising pigs anytime soon?
Hhahaaaa are you making a cop joke hhahahaa :) :) :) :) We are going to be adding pigs to our homestead actually, we're hoping this spring if all goes well!
Mmmmmmm...
Haha ... I am trying to. ;-) Yummm ... I can smell beacons cooking on your stove already from next year. :-)
You had a lot going on there. Such a busy woman :) My grandpa also has many chicken in his house in the field. There are also piglets there. And grown up piglets. Lol haha! But seriously yes :) Is @eddiebowes your husband? Have he tried cock fighting? My grandpa is sometimes doing that.
Get well soon to your son. I'm pretty sure he'll be okay real quick ;)
HAHAA !!! Eddie is our eldest son, he is 13 now, and I think he would be very sad if we tried to get his pet roosters to fight hahaha, they are very gentle and tame birds :) Thank you for the laughs!
Omg. My bad. I was trying to check his blogs yesterday to see if he really is your husband but my net sucks so i just asked you instead.
Im glad Eddie got a very gentle roosters. My grandpa's always tries to had a fight with me whenever I just walk passed by it. 😡 Its really a fighter. Hahaha!
Yea I had a Roo that would attack people...he never attacked me though, I was his Mommy....but we still had to say goodbye to him because he hurt a couple kids... :'(
Okay, you are a very inspiring person and I realized today that "Walk with me" is a cool thing that other Steemians are doing and that I could join in w/o being a copy catter, giggle!! Thanks for sharing your little piece of the world and a big piece of your heart @lyndsaybowes and as a side note, that hat would be perfect for Haturday!! Steemit is so fun :)
I cannot wait to see your shining face in the #walkwithme tag!! YAY!!! And I'll have to look in to "Haturday" lolol sounds fun!
