THE HISTORY OF THE LOCAL DRY GIN CALLED "KAI-KAI'' IN NIGERIA
Kai-Kai locally called by the Southern people of Nigeria is known for many name.
The English know it as Alcohol or Ethanol and Dry Gin
Some call is Ogogoro, Shark, Chelsea, Ogwofy, highness and shekpe. Names popularly known in Nigeria.
History has it,that they were times in Sapele village in modern day Delta state when Hausa people of Northern Nigerians that deal on drugs do visit Sapele cos of the Sea Port there to trade. Being their first time of going South, they wanted to explore and even take home what they have discovered while they were away.

So one day, when they came to Sapele Land, they decided to visit a popular Alcoholic joint which they have long been hearing about who gave them reception and offered Kolanut and a local gin to them as Kolanut because tradition demands that you must entertain your visitor.
One of the Hausa's tested the drink and he shouted "KAI-KAI'',which made the dealer to ask why he shouted "KAI-KAI'', but he only smiled and said this is the best drink he had ever had and the Hausa's enjoyed the drink that they always want to visit Sapele for "KAI-KAI''.after the reception they left for the day activities of selling their local medicine.
Whenever they visit Sapele sea port, they would love to visit the Kai-Kai palace because that's where they get real drink and they would say,Papa give us that drink that make us to say "KAI-KAI''.
So this gave the name ""KAI-KAI'' to our local dry gin.
Kai-Kai is extracted from palm wine when heated on fire.
Till this very day, if you want to marry a woman from Sapele village, the best gift they will appreciate from you is Dry Gin.
If you have never tasted it before, I advise you to give it a shot
Hahahahaha, I actually remember one story behind this. There's this day that my friend was having a birthday and I was to supply drinks as my contribution. I got enough beer and wine but in just a few hours they got finished and the guys were demanding for more. So, I rushed to a supermarket and got a few of seaman's royale, the rest is history.
Hahahahahahahah..... Kai -kai funny discovery. Sapele water
