THE AFRICAN WOMAN 1

My heart broke this weekend when I read a story somewhere on the internet. This woman was heartbroken and confused. She had no idea what she had to do and she wanted the opinion of the public to help her make a decision as fast as possible.

She narrated how she caught her husband on top of her 11 year old kid sister who stays with her to assist her with daily chores and who she also trains in school. She went on to state how the little girl informed her how the act has been going on for a while and how "uncle" threatened her never to tell anyone about any of the things he does to her and also promising to get her goodies.

The supposed husband of this woman begged his wife not to inform anyone including her family. She however went on to inform his own family who begged her not to inform her family and refused her sending the girl back her home and instead took the little girl into their custody until the storm passes.

What shattered my heart is the advice this woman got from the public whom she had trusted to help her make a decision concerning what to do. I read advices ranging from "cover your husbands nakedness, send the girl back home, do not tell your family else they will never respect him" to " pray for your husband so that he can be changed and send the girl back home and please forgive him and try to keep your home" and a bunch of other related crap.

A child had just been abuse, a destiny tainted and a life that would just never be the same again and what everybody cared about was the woman hiding her husband's nakedness, praying and forgiving the man who just abused a child. What have we done to ourselves. We have a lot of sick men and women walking on the streets of Nigeria and the world at large because of the kind of abuse that go on in different forms that are eventually hidden to cover the nakedness from the public.

I am honestly broken as to what I saw as advices from fellow women to this woman. Am confused as to how marriage has become more important than a life and a generation at large. I weep for that young girl and I pray for healing upon her soul, I pray for the grace to forgive and the strength to look past it all and strive to be a king woman. The African woman has a lot of learning and growth to do. Sadly but true. What would you advice this woman to do. I look forward to your comment on this issue. Thank you for reading.
