interesting information about vulture birds
Vulture is the common name of scavenger birds that make up the New World vulture family and the Old World vulture subfamily belonging to the hawks family. The term vulture does not meet a specific taxonomic group. There are 23 vulture species today, of which 16 are Old World and 7 New World.
Why are vultures bald?
Vultures that feed on carrion insert their heads into the body of the carcass while feeding. If their heads were hairy, they would get dirty and become a nest of germs, causing diseases. For the bald head vulture, it means cleanliness and immunity from disease.
