VRHackspace proof-of-concept

in #vr8 years ago

I've been working on a 3D environment with computers in...

tl;dr: https://github.com/oholiab/vrhackspace, currently only runs on Linux, master branch can be run using docker-compose and docker with no other dependencies (other than X)

Hello Steemolians (or whatever you are)

I'm kinda interested in what this Steem thing is about, but rather than use it to talk about it (which is apparently what you do with a new social media platform - I'm looking at you Tsu and Ello) I decided that I would use my first post to actually show you a thing I've done.

So here (by which I mean up there ^) it is. You can look at the link for the full deets, but basically it's a 3D environment in which you can render an interactive X11 terminal so you can use a computer in games and stuff! It's very much a proof-of-concept (uninitialised variables, dangling pointers, repeated code... I'm sorry) for an idea from http://n-o-d-e.net, specifically this post, in which is postulated the idea of a hackspace in virtual reality.

Like I say, the code is not "good" because I favoured having something over having a perfect nothing (and I don't really C++), and also it runs docker containers with volume mounts and root privileges so... don't get owned.

The big deal here for me is to make something where I can use a bunch of computer terminals that aren't even there with a VR headset, or maybe a game whereby you control a spaceship (or something) by writing real code...

Anyway, I hope you like it or it gives you a good idea or you decide to do your own version that learns from the mistakes of mine! Also, if there's a tag you think I should be posting this sort of cyberpunky crap in, lemme know, and nice to meet you all :)
