Why Do We Vote?
Check out this excerpt of a cover story published by American Psychological Association back in 2008:-
Voting is often inconvenient, time-consuming and may even seem pointless.
Voting is personally costly. It takes time to register and to learn about the candidates' views. On election day, you may need to leave work, stand in long lines or slog through harsh weather, knowing all the while that the chances your individual vote will make a difference among the thousands, or millions cast, are pretty much zero.
As it says, pretty much bothersome and inconsequential when it comes to national elections. But voting has evolved. Have you ever experienced something like STEEM? Voting here plays a part in resource distribution, and you can even stay at home in your underwear dishing out votes! And mind you, small and large, our votes do matter on this network. They're clear as day on the STEEM blockchain.
Here's what @andrarchy mentioned recently: currency facilitates the coordination of human activity. Meatspace coordination is time-consuming, but imagine what happens when human coordination is in virtual space such as STEEM? The speed of change will never be the same again. So why do we vote? For a better tomorrow.. I guess?
We vote to affect change, no point in getting annoyed at the system and then not voting, its the ultimate sanction for a non performing politician, and as they say you know democracy is working because no one sector of society is happy and complaint free, so no one class has it all its own way.

I disagree- I've voted in every election local, state, general since I was 18 (almost 50 now) until I came to the conclusion that on many levels our government has become corrupted to it's core. When we vote we grant our consent to be governed by whomever we vote for. I no longer consent to being governed by this corrupted system therefore I did not cast a vote in the past election and I have every right to gripe about the corruption and do often. Voting= consenting to be governed by a corrupted system- I withdrew my consent!
Unfortunately you have to use your vote to try and affect change, non participation is tacit approval as the other side registers more votes, I totally get what you are saying, but it just means your legitimate voice and opinion is lost.
voting changes little with systemic corruption entrenched. Example- let's assume Trump in't just another minion puppet controlled by the overlords- let's assume he is pure of heart and ran for POTUS because he truly wants to make America great again. You think he's going to be able to accomplish in DC? Look at the deepstate attacks he endures daily- even POS Republicans like McLame, Graham and McDonnell who bad mouth Trump constantly?
Secondly there are other ways, and IMHO more effective ways to evoke change and I'm definitely doing that- please don't equate not voting to apathy or inaction.
Of cours I wouldn't all I am saying is that to keep a system healthy you engage on all fronts, that's what I beleive, but you are more than entitled to your views always, I was brought up to beleive to vote, you don't and that's fair enough.

At the end — is yet again — group vs group
Definitely, since that's how we've started out, or how most lifeforms would operate. But I think p2p technologies could break out at least break big groups vs big groups
p2p technologies have the unique power to transform every individual into their own group. This is what is great about them.
I agree with your article's ending about Steemit and voting on a decentralized platform.
This is the real reason why America has elections:
Vote whoever you want in, the President is "protected" by Secret Service, whose main job is to ensure no one counterfeits or messes with the Federal Reserve's money. Hence JFK.
The only chance we have to free ourselves from a completely fake money system is to use the states to enact article 5 by putting congressman in office who will do what we want.
Then we can institute an anarchistic system like steemit in society that is decentralized and has the same type of voting system, and benefits everyone. So that voting actually matters again.
Right now people are voting between Coke and Pepsi and they should know both choices are bad for them but they don't.
Well said, the 2-party system is a joke, although i think it's just a system any self-organising society converges to before it finds a need to decentralise. I think it's pretty much the same everywhere?

This is a good article. However, in my country, your votes does not really count, they manipulate election results. Steeemit Vote is like giving someone a few bucks. Good job @kevinwong

To the question: Why do we vote, or do not vote?
Although voting is not mandatory, I believe voting is a method to create interactivity. Although best to vote with a comment, since comments creates THE trigger for response! Especially here on Steemit.
In general elections (politics I mean), the response is not direct, and may not be indirect as well. Last general elections in The Netherlands we managed far over 80% (81,9% to be exact) of the people allowed to vote, to go outside their house to their local vote corner and cast their vote. I was pretty pleased about this figure. And although the Dutch Trump and his party got quite a few votes, I was even more pleased when the majority of the votes went into the directions of other more quality parties.
Anyways, to vote here on Steemit (or BTCC for that matter) is sooooo super non time consuming, it is just 1 click of the mouse and done! How easy! And no rules for voting as well, just click those post and comment you like; How cool is that. For those who question culture around Steemit voting, maybe this post is interesting to read (here).
