How to overcome the 2 party political system

in #vote8 years ago

We are not a 2 party political system in the U.S. We are PREDOMINANTLY a 2 party system. There are soooo many other candidates. Do the research. Look them up. Read about them. What are their beliefs? What have they done in the past? The job of the President is to conduct our international affairs, to the face of the nation. They are required to exude diplomacy. And if they can't or won't our foreign affairs are affected adversely.

If the other candidates that are heading toward that ballot aren't a criminal (Clinton) and they haven't offended half the world (Trump), then they may be more worth your vote. And if you've done the research, share it with your friends. Swing the vote! One person can make the difference, once multiplied by millions! Be that one. Write in a candidate. It isn't a wasted vote. If a large portion of the electorate were to start voting for candidates other than Republican or Democrat, we would be showing our leaders that people care enough to vote but that we are pissed off enough at the horrific choices will not vote for them. Take a stand! Turning over cars and hurting police horses is not the answer. Using our electoral process the way it was meant to be used, is the answer.

It is possible in the long term, but needs billions of dollars in funding, and a chain of strong candidates. I'd say it would take about 3 general elections or 12 years to change people's minds. A lot of America are die hard republicans or die hard democrats. For the first election, all a third party / independent will do is take away votes from the big two. But over time, with sustained campaigning and strong candidates, it should be possible to get a third party elected. But long term, this will have to be at the expense of one of the two older parties. We have seen around the world, politics filters down to two parties on the long run. The parties may change, but it's always two major ones in most countries.

As for this election, it's far too late. It's going to be Clinton or Trump.

I agree. It will take time. Even if the 2 parties remain, if people vote for someone else, it may make the parties realize they have to change what they are doing if they are going to continue to lead and exist. One can hope!

Unfortunately the media convinces most that you have to vote against someone rather than for someone. It's possible for a 3rd party to get a growing percent of voters over time but the media frames the election in such a way people are easily tricked into voting for lesser of two bad candidates. Let's hope the old media continues to rot and new media platforms such as SteemIt prevail so people can get alternative sources of information.
