China put into orbit the first space gene bank
With the help of this genetic material a new human civilization will be created, the project organizers say.
The Chinese company Shainghai ManWei Technology carried out the launch of the first in the history of the space bank of genes DSB-01 into orbit. It is reported by TASS with reference to the Central Television of China on Sunday, October 28.
The launch was carried out from the Taiyuan cosmodrome in Shanxi Province using the Changzheng-4 launch vehicle.
The organizers of the project claim that the genetic material received from eight citizens of China will be intact for about one thousand years. It is placed in a special container that is not exposed to cosmic radiation.
According to the channel, referring to the calculations of specialists, the Earth may become unsuitable for humanity in the next 400 years as a result of the depletion of the resource base and overpopulation.
"It is assumed that with the help of this gene bank a new human civilization will be created," the report says.In the near future, Shainghai ManWei Technology is going to create a space gene bank where millions of samples will be stored. According to the company's plan, this gene material will then be shipped to Mars and "planets similar to Earth."
In September, China launched a successful launch of Changzheng-3B launch vehicles with two Beidou-3 navigation satellites, which became the 37th and 38th satellites of the global Beidou navigation system.
Recall that in 2018, China plans to launch 40 launch vehicles, including its currently most powerful Changzheng-5
