  • Translation Overview

In this translation, what makes me notice is mummy. I watched many movies about mummies such as: The Mummy (1999), The Mummy Returns (2001), The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor (2008), The Mummy (2017).

I decided to find out more information.

Meaning of Mummy

The word mummy in English is derived from medieval Latin, mumia, an borrowed word in Arabic from mūmiyyah (مومية), meaning "bitumen".
The word in Arabic is also borrowed from the Persian word mūmiya, meaning "bitumen".

The most famous mummies are intentionally preserved for specific preservation purposes, especially the ancient Egyptian ones. Egyptian culture believes that the body is a refuge for the soul, the Egyptians call it: Ka and that is a key part of man in the next life. In Egypt, the body is marinated in the way of an abdomen, removing many organs. Then the body is covered with natron, to accelerate dehydration and prevent decomposition.

The process of mummification of Egypt

The people who are responsible for preserving the dead bodies not only work based on their understanding of human anatomy, but also have to perform ritual stages in the process of marinating.

As soon as a person dies, their body is quickly brought to the mummified people to prevent premature decay. A typical embalming process takes 70 days in which skilled workers must race to complete the construction of the tomb.

The first step in the process of embalming the Egyptians is to remove all the organs that tend to rot as early as possible. The brain is removed by smashing the bone at the end of the nose with a chisel and inserting a special hook into the nostril to the skull. Then pick up the hook to break the brain. The loose brain is poured out of the skull through the nose by tilting the skull to one side.

Then the body was bathed with palm wine. Thanks to its high alcohol content, it will kill most bacteria that have begun to proliferate in the corpse at that time.

In the end, the body was covered with many linen sheets, some had charms attached to help the dead on their way to the afterlife. After many wrapping operations, the body is covered with hot pine resin, Plastic layer to ensure the layers will stay still
