RE: Age Discrimination in the Music & Entertainment Industry - Vlog - Debate

in #vlog7 years ago (edited)

I do not think age, gender, beauty count so much when you're an artist. What you create matters. In fact, art is a fascinating domain to which anyone can access, and whoever regardless of age, beauty, or affiliation can contribute with something. In my opinion most matter self-esteem and self-confidence. If you feel good in your skin, you strongly believe in your voice, in the skills of painting, carving, dancing, etc., then everything is possible. Look at Barbara Streisand! If she had not firmly believed in her vocal and acting qualities, and she would be ashamed of how she looks like because she has a particular nose, do you think she would have performed for so many years? I think it most matters to be authentic and to try to be creative until old age for the benefit of mental health.

I think all you points are valid and true, but I still believe there's truth to @emmacairo's points as well. One doesn't rule out the other. The problem described in the video may especially pertain to the music industry, where hard numbers are often all that matters these days.

I like your take on it and agree. I wish this was mainstream thinking in the industry :-)
