West Bengal is a state in the eastern region of India whose state capital is Kolkata & it is nation's fourth-most populous state. Another fact about West Bengal is that it is a major agricultural producer & it is sixth largest contributor to India's Net Domestic Product. West Bengal is famous for its cultural activities & Kolkata is known as the Cultural Capital of India. Here we will talk about 7 amazing places one must visit in West Bengal.
1. Howrah Bridge:
It is a Cantilever Bridge, which is spread over the Hooghly River in West Bengal & that connects Howrah city with Kolkata. Earlier it was named as New Howrah Bridge because it replaced a pontoon bridge at the same place but later on it was changed to Howrah Bridge. It is the famous symbol of the state.
2. Botanical Garden:
This is one of the most popular gardens in Kolkata because of the great banyan tree that has the largest canopy in the world. Rare kind of plants & trees from different part of world are found here. It is open from sunrise to sunset for the visitors. There is a lake where boating can also be done.
3. Victoria Memorial:
It is the largest marble building in Kolkata that was made in the memory of Queen Victoria, which is now a museum & one of the most visited places by the tourists. It is situated on the bank of the Hooghly River.
4. Belur Math:
It is a temple situated on the west bank of Hooghly River which was founded by Swami Vivekananda. It is best known for its architecture & resembles a temple, a mosque, a church when seen from different angles. It is a symbol of unity of all religions.
5. Kalighat Kali Temple:
It is a Hindu Temple which is dedicated to goddess Kali & it is one of the 51 Shakti Peethas. The city Kolkata got its name Calcutta from Kalighat. It was situated near the Hooghly River but over period of time the river has moved away from the temple & the temple is now near a canal called Adi Ganga which connects to the Hooghly River.

It is one of the most famous tourist points in West Bengal as it is a national park, tiger reserve & a biosphere reserve. There are variety of animals & birds. It has variety of marine mammals, reptiles, endangered species and fishes. Sunderbans is famous for its flora; it has beautiful variety of trees & special kind of Mangrove trees.
7. Indian Museum:
It is the largest & the oldest museum in India which has rare collection of antiques, amours, ornaments & jewels. This was founded by Asiatic Society of Bengal. It has six sections comprising of Art, Archeology, Geology, and Economic Botany & Zoology.
