Vietnamese Spirit #1: VILLAGE WELL
Village well is a close picture which maintain spiritual life of Vietnamese. It not only provides water for all villagers but is also where local people take a rest from all their hard work, chat together, or youngers flirt each other as well.
Village well becomes an essential part in Vietnamese's spiritual life. Although they go far for earn-living, or go away on business, a village well picture always warm one to motivate and support them.
Đua Well - 1948
This is a picture of my village water well, Dua well. It is sinked in 1948, means 70 years ago. Nowadays, Dua well was restored as the picture you can see. Long time ago, Vietnamese was still poor, and they depended on nature completely. So if it was drought, water in Dua well was a living power for Thinh My villagers. Besides, Dua well saw all up and down life of the village. That's the reason why they restored Dua well to maintain it for children generation as reminding about history of Thinh My.
As I've said above, rural well plays an important role in villagers' life both daily and spirit one. Therefore, well has become enteral symbol of rural Vietnam.
