Learning Vietnamese #7 - Time

In this post I'm presenting some time vocabulary in Vietnamese.

Let's get started with the months. This is extremely easy, since we just need to add the month number (presented here) after the word "Tháng".

JanuaryTháng một
FebruaryTháng hai
MarchTháng ba
AprilTháng tư
MayTháng năm
JuneTháng sáu
JulyTháng bảy
AugustTháng tám
SeptemberTháng chín
OctoberTháng mười
NovemberTháng mười một
DecemberTháng mười hai

Next, let's learn the days of the week. Again, they are very simple, but there's an exception. In this case, we need to add the number of the day (starting on Sunday as day 1) after the word "Thứ". However, in the case of Sunday, it is called "Chủ Nhật", which could be translated as "God's day".

MondayThứ hai
TuesdayThứ ba
WednesdayThứ tư
ThursdayThứ năm
FridayThứ sáu
SaturdayThứ bảy
SundayChủ Nhật

Even though it feels a bit overwhelming to learn other families of words in Vietnamese (due to the short length of the words and many variations in tones), it also becomes relatively feasible thanks to the usage of the classifier system (i.e., the usage of keywords like "Tháng" or "Thư" to define months and days of the week, for instance), which reflects a very logical structure in this language.
